How should I decorate for an 80s themed party?

My 18th b-day party is August 16th. And I decided that I wanted it be an 80s themed party. Sooo, does anyone have any clever ideas of what I should do.

Colors,

decorations,

etc.

ohhhhhhh my favorite era, I would have people dress up as someone with the rapper style like what will smith wore or someone can dress up as a metal artist with leather jacket and leather jeans, colors should be bright, decorations should be a disco ball in the middle of the dance floor playing like Bon Jovi, tina turner, dead or alive, wam, and a whole lot more artist from the 80's but make sure it plays madonna and will smith, mc hammer, and vanilla ice

The 80's were all about excess, so make your decorations dramatic and colorful. Bold Hot colors. Tape streamers from the ceiling, helium balloons too!! You could do your invitations..."Girls Just wanna Have Fun" (Cindy Lauper) on the outside than the invite info on the inside. Dress "Totally Rad Dude...Fer suuure" Valley girl talk. "Like Im having...like an 80's Party...and your invited...ferrr suuuure!!! Put in an eighties movie on the tv....Flashdance...Videos of Madonna, Cindy Lauper...ect... Play disco music, have everyone wear 80's clothes. Serve like a 12 foot sub sandwich with baked beans, potato salid etc... cheap and easy to clean!! Have Fun!! And HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

Hmmm I should know since I was a teen in the 80s....but its hard to think of how to decorate. Watch some 80s teen movies like Pretty in Pink and 16 Candles and Fast Times at Ridgemont High. In the early to mid 80s, parachute pants, checkered vans, pink and green and neon were hot. Also feathered hair and then towards the late 80s big hair with lots of hair spray. Our technology was VCRs, Sony Walkmans with cassette tapes, record players, Atari video games on the TV.

You could decorate with Rubiks Cubes made from boxes and painted and hang them from the ceiling. Rubiks Cubes were a super hot gadget in the 80s.Cabbage patch dolls too.

For 80's themes make your decorations dramatic and colorful... for party decorations you can have paper cups and plates in neon colors or may be animal prints or some geometric patterns... would be just perfect... check out here some good suggestions around games and activities...

I would go to a goodwill or similar store, and look for items that have been "bedazzled". Hang shirts all around on hangars, that have the collars turned up. Offer prizes for the "cool kid's" who wear their jeans' french rolled. Biggest bangs contest for the girls. Herbie Hancock music. The soundtrack from Beverly Hill's Cop, with Eddie Murphy. Miami Vice music. Don Johnson actually recorded an album that might insight violence and/or vomiting. Watch the movie The Breakfast Club or any movie starring Molly Ringwald for more inspiration.

  • in college i threw a ton of themed parties. the one that was the biggest hit was the 80s party. we wrote words on construction paper that reminded us of things from the 80s.... big cell phones, everyone doing coke, famous tv shows or movies (flashdance!), mullets, etc etc. be creative- its fun. we also had a big sign hanging up that said something like "when i think of the 80s i think of..." and whoever wanted to wrote hilarious things on the list. i still have that list saved somewhere because it wound up being great. and clearly, everyone dressed up in full decked out 80s clothes. and make sure to have some great mixes of 80s music.

Posters of 80's rock bands. Laura Branigan, white snake, poison... You could easily find some recent electro music that is remixed from 80's rock.

you should have lots of neon colors.. if possible.. i know neon stuff is hard to come by these days.. have like some duran duran posters up and any other 80s band. i guess if everyone is dressed 80s and you have a couple of posters up on the wall with 80s icons, that should be enough.. don't forget the cindi lauper poster!!
