What does a woman really mean when she says "I will never get married?" She wasn't bitter, she just claims...
...that she is devoted to her baby and will never marry.
Let's say she is an old friend whom you never pursued because she is 11 years your junior (now 43 vs. 32, then 38 vs. 27), and she just had a baby out of wedlock (father disappeared upon hearing the news). Let's add that you spent a day with her and the baby and she agreed that we should get together again and even volunteered to drive the two hours to my place.
I'm thinking the age difference is not very relevant now that she has the baby and my vision of swooning romantic love has been replaced by the desire to have a bestest friend forever and a family, and she really seems to fit the bill.
How serious do you think she is about never marrying? The last thing I want to do is pursue her and end up with a broken heart. And spend $50 in gas every time I visit her.
PS The babby is really cute, even though his momma made him wear a plaid hat that is so not manly. Wear can you get manly hats for babies?

Are you being serious? I would totally drive to see you every week. I do already, but you wont open the door when you know it's me.
A new baybee is totally overwhelming and it's normal for a woman to say she'll never marry after having one. Tell her about your BA average on here and just watch her panties fly off!
Oh--try to find a nice manly skull cap for the baybee at Hot Topic--you can order online if you're scared to actually go in the store.

For the record: I never pursued an old woman friend who is or is not my junior.
Fathers usually disappear after they make a wet spot on the sheets.
Age difference does matter if you are both Seniors (one being a high school senior and the other being over 65+)
Babbies are best kept in a warm cabbage leaf, hats are usually not necessary unless he is also bald. Bald babbies usually have self-esteem issues so he will need to join the toupee of the month club. Talk to the Donald about that.
Gas costes lots more than fipty buck dollars. You should make that young woman split the cost and also take you out to McDonald's for the wear and tear.
You should never marry a junior woman just for her babby making skills. She should also be capable of wielding a mean spatula in the kitchen (if you know what I mean)
I have no idea about what your question really means. I always thought Geeks were neutered or Italian or something like that.

It could mean several different things:
It could be just as Tublet said, her son is her main concern and marriage is not a top priority. Sometimes people say "never" because their mind is to busy to be exploring the idea of "what if".
It could also be that she does not see the advantage in marriage since she merely wanted to have a child and since that is accomplished and she is fine going it alone, she sees no reason.
She could also be very soured on the idea of relationships and marriage given a recent failure. Possibly she still holds a torch for the man who abandoned her regardless if he is undeserving. Maybe her childhood and upbringing had her witness nothing but bad marriages and unions causing her to be negative in attitude or she feels she is unlucky in love and may as well throw in the towel now rather than risk more pain and suffering.
Last but not least, she may simply be telling you this because, though she enjoys the companionship, she does not suspect she will have deep feelings for you. Telling you she will not marry again may be her way of urging you not to expect anything in a way that is less harsh. She may also be concerned about the age difference.
On a more positive note, though I have no children, four years ago I was single after having been divorced for a number of years. I met someone 16 years younger than me. I was negative about relationships as well. Today we are engaged (he is 32 and I am 48). It was a rough road for a couple years but you never know what is going to happen.
I am sure you are less concerned about the $50 road trip than the heartbreak you may (or may not) experience. She is fresh out of a heartbreak herself. Have some patience and get in your car. What you have both gone through for all these years may have been preparing you both for what is to happen between you in the future. Live life with a little less caution. The applicable phrase here is "nothing ventured, nothing gained". The best of luck!

Wow, you sound like a really sweet guy.
I suppose it depends on what made her say that. Did you ask her about marriage or was it something random she just said? As far as the age difference that really doesn't matter if you're attracted to each other. Just be frank, ask her out and see what she says. Sometimes when women have babies they devote themselves totally to them to avoid being hurt in her case again. It is hard for single mothers to date. A lot more at risk than just themselves then. Don't go all out in the beginning before you are sure about what she wants. Ask her if she's interested then take it from there. No need to play yourself by trying to be psychic.

Yes, I think that what you're saying is true. If a white woman says that she is a "strong white woman", we consider the "white" part to be superfluous. Why does she need to say "white"? The main reason for this is because whites are currently in the majority and anytime whites make a specific mention of their ethnicity it seems unnecessary. You don't hear woman saying "I'm a strong Asian woman" because, usually, in oriental cultures at least, people put a lot of emphasis on being polite and self-deprecating. It would be arrogant in that culture to make such a statement.

Is marriage the only way you can be happy? If you are with the women you love and she loves you its only a piece of paper...marriage is in the heart not on the ring finger. Quit worrying about the $50 and just go with the flow...oh and try Baby Gap for hats.

Dude .... Listen ... for the 11-D millionth Time I ain't her Baby-Daddy, Okay .... you can't shame me into owning up to this one, okay?.
And the hook about the ugly hat was too low .... even for you.
But that should be enough proof in of itself that that's not my Son ..... No Son of mine would rock a plaid cap !!!!
And I ain't telling you where I shop for hats because Bubba, the store owner would sell me out for an Olde English 40 ounce

It sounds like she's saying the baby is the priority which is a good attitude to have. I don't think she'll "never get married", but she would probably never get married to someone who didn't fit into her child's life, perfectly.
And if it doesn't work out with her, I'll call you when I get divorced.

Nobody wants a broken heart.
Sometimes you have to get a dozen broken hearts until the day someone comes along that mends it back together and never breaks it.
I think you should pursue her. You're a good guy and she would be lucky to have you.
