Incompatible chipset - what does it mean and what can I do?
Trying to play a game (EA's Rail Simulator), but it won't work, I got in touch with EA and apparently my problem is that I have a hardware incompatibility because my chipset is not supported. Their advice was not particularly helpful ("try installing it on a computer that is supported"), so is there anything I can do to upgrade/improve my chipset without major surgery?
It's not a particularly old computer--almost exactly a year. New game, though. And it's a laptop, could that affect things?

If this is a fairly new game running on a fairly old computer, it will be incompatible with your video chipset, especially if your computer has "Integrated Intel graphics".
Many cheap/old computers do not have proper video acceleration, and most of them do not have the ability to add a real video card. If your computer has an AGP or PCI-E x16 slot, you can add/replace the video card relatively easily.

the chipset is to do with the motherboard and processor if the chipset is incompatable there isn't much you can do
if the computer is fairly old then it could be that the specification of the computer is too low to support the game
