Do you feed Orijen dog food?

I want to switch to a better food but, my dog has allergies, most likely to brown rice and possibly lamb...(thanks to everyone who answered the question about my dobie with a rash). Currently I feed Eagle Pack Holistic Selects the Anchovy, Sardine and Salmon meal and I am looking into the Orijen 6 Fish and Sea Vegetable formula. Does anyone use this brand? Would you recommend it? Do you notice any change in your dog from using it (ie coat, teeth, appetite etc)?

Update:

Oh and if you did answer the other question I had about the rash --today we went to the vet and she definitly has allergies and a staph infection from scratching...all is well ...

Mine do great on the fish/vegetable Orijen. I had 2 out of 60 that had loose stools...I put them on Instinct Duck & Turkey.

Orijen is an excellent food and is one of the foods I recommend. Many people who feed raw use Orijen as a back up food when kibble feeding is necessary (traveling, kenneling etc). It is one of the foods I recommend to puppy buyers since not all of them will raw-feed. Canidae is changing its formulas. They've started a manufacturing contract with Diamond foods and so things like the herring meal are being replaced with a more generic "fish meal". And they are adding Barley rather than Millet to some foods.. because it is less expensive-- but barley is NOT gluten-free so may cause more issues with dogs that don't have a tolerance for gluten. These facts, combined with the fact that some years ago Diamond foods had some issues with toxins that cause kidney damage getting into their foods *I* will no longer recommend Canidae... and I will admit- I loved the Canidae ALS. Different dogs have different issues on different foods. I primarily raw feed but my dogs are given a variety of high quality kibbles as treats/training aids and occassional meals.

I missed the earlier post about allergies.

I have fed Orijen and think it's a really good kibble, I do think raw is best but I understand that it doesn't work for everybody.

My dogs didn't do great on the Orijen so I have switched them to Taste Of The Wild, which is also grain free.

Good luck with your dog, allergies can be tough to work out.

Source(s): Have dogs with grain allergies.
  • I'm just starting to switch my gang over to Orijen. I intend to do it very slowly, since the stuff is freakin pricey.
