Recommend child care in Manhattan (NYC)?

We have a 2 1/2 yr old and need to either send him to daycare/preschool, or get him a nanny. Most parents here use nannies and we're comfortable with some we've met. Any opinions on which is better, nanny or daycare/preschool? (seems everyone uses a nanny and there has to be a good reason). We've also checked with some church & synagogue programs in the neighborhood and they sound very good because of their group activities. Anyone have recommendations for what's best to do in NYC? (We live in Upper East Side). I'm assuming at his age, daycare is same as preschool.

Why not get the best of both worlds and hire a nanny with an education degree? I would go through an agency - that's where you'll find the top quality/qualified nannies. I've been a nanny for several years and also have a master's degree in Education and am a licensed elementary teacher. The most important thing for toddlers (younger than K/1st grade) is PLAY time - ask any education professional. Also, many nannies are involved in playgroups and can bring your child to lots of different activities - structured and otherwise. Good luck with whatever you decide :). You're not Mrs. X are you?? Haha

I recommend The Boys and Girls Club, they're excellent. Check it out, it's a bit cheaper than getting a nanny, your child will have a lot of fun during the day and be productive, and have great care as well! There's one in Madison Sq., or you may be able to find another if you prefer at bgca.org.

    Good luck!!
