Unfortunately for Microsoft Windows users most applications aren't very portable when installed. With registry entries, moving applications becomes a bit of a pain. Depending on the application, you can probably move the files and search through the registry to update location references. Just make sure to follow each registry entry that refers to another registry entry too. You'll also need to update shortcuts (primarily to the launch program).

Moving most applications will prove to be a challenge for even competent computer people so I'd really recommend reinstalling applications. Missing an entry could really make tracking down errors very difficult.

If you really need to worry about disk space, consider using an application to transfer your C drive to a new C drive of larger size. Some disk manufacturers include utilities to help with migrating to a new disk.

  • You can't transfer programs, you have to install them.

You can move your data, like pictures and movies and songs and that kind of thing. That might give you the room you need. Then just tell the programs their new location.
