Do you think the car lot will replace the car? Should I contact Ford?

Ok - long story short, my 07 Focus (31,800 miles) is only getting 18 mpg in the city. This has been confirmed by our Ford garage. They said that's POOR for that car, but so far haven't been able to figure out the problem and they've had it since Monday. If they can't find out why, then what?

I'm guessing I should call the dealership before Ford. I've been in the arguement with their service department since we bought the car in June. I'm thinking of asking them to let us use another Focus for a week and see if it does any better - if it does, we know it's the car; if it doesn't, then we'll just chaulk it up the area (my driving habits aren't that bad, I tend to baby my cars). I'd like to see them exchange the car if we find that the car's not getting the mileage we expected. Do you think they will?

What will Ford do if we call them? Anything?

Update:

I called the service department there 2-3 times after we bought it and they kept saying that they didn't think there was a problem.

A few weeks later, the transmission started acting up - it was in the shop for a week and a half (here - we live in IN and bought the car in KY). I had hoped the mileage would improve, but didn't.

I made an appt with their service dept but they have no interest in trying to find the problem. Aside from telling us we couldn't be getting that bad of gas mileage - they said all they were going to do was hook it up and drive it for a few minutes and didn't expect to find any problem.

I'm sure they will try to find a way to blame you for the low gas mileage. All you can do is try to call them and see. It won't hurt things any. They may have good suggestions for getting better gas mileage. I think it would be hard to get another car from them.

Try some of that Octane boost stuff. Just buy the cheapest kind. You put it in your gas tank when you fill up. There is some of that stuff that says it will unclog your fuel filter. You shouldn't use that stuff every time you fill up the car, but try it and see if it helps. Also, a new gas cap may help. It may not be getting a good seal.

    Good luck

How historic is the battery? It can have a lifeless phone and suggests fake readings. It would be the brushes within the alternator don't seem to be turning correctly, It could also be rebuilt however now not charging correctly. If it is not the battery or alternator then investigate to make certain the parking, dome gentle transfer is off. If that's not it then you've got a wiring harness trouble, potentially a twine that's free and grounding a few wherein draining the battery. You must take it to anyone that may hint the trouble, if this is a wiring trouble. Good Luck and I wish it is whatever realistic and low cost.
