Do "Friends" receive higher ratings?

Do you think there is a bias towards a "Friend, " or an old timer who you would give a higher rating, even though there was a better answer?

Yes, I do think there is and certain times it is so blatant -- in your face -- that it is not difficult to miss.

There are a few "new" users that gear their questions to their "Friends" so they can justify giving that person BA.

I have seen this so many times within the last few weeks that I tend to be selective of the questions I answer.

This is Q&A's not a Senior Chat forum.

Perhaps they should familiarize themselves with the Community Rules and Guidelines.

It happens. That's why I like to keep the lines of communication open. If I have had a few "chats" through the available email that is on this site beforehand, then when I see an answer that others think is "out of line", I will know what they are referring to & the readers won't. Sometimes, it's better if people have secrets until they know who they are really dealing with! There is a LOT of deception that goes on in the internet world...just like real life! Darn...I was expecting the internet to be better than that. I think it WAS in the beginning, when this site had better screening to stop the abuse. Now we just gotta roll with the punches & hope someone hears our cries for help! What was the question? ratings, higher rating for friends? Naw...just more fun when you understand the motivation behind the words of the other members!

I have asked a similar question and many say no. But, I believe that a friend's answer would get best answer. It would be hard not to be biased. I do not have that problem since I do not know anyone to select.

I think it even goes further than just friends just happening to get best answer. I think they tell each other their friends the questions they will ask and make sure the friends answer so they can get selected. In other words, I think in many cases, it is premeditated.

I have noticed how they will talk back and forth when asking and answering questions and make comments to someone specific.

This is speculation on my part, but it just appears that it is being done quite often. Of course no one will admit it.

I joined yahoo two years ago. I found the senior section less than a year ago.

I feel I get a fair share of best answers and thumbs up. I pay no attention to thumbs down. I have given 2 thumbs down in 2 years, because I truly thought a thumbs down was in order.

The person that asks the question, has the right to pick best answer, that works for them.

Sometimes I spend ½ hour or more on my answer, mainly because I want to be of help. I could care less for the points and I seldom answer with a yes or no.

I tend to say way more than they want to hear for an answer but I just do that and I simply can’t be brief.

    I think it is fair.

Snoot, I am pretty new here but I really enjoy the Senior section. I don't care about the points or getting the best answer award (though it is nice to see that best answer mail).

I'm just here to have fun and if I can, help someone with an answer that I might have.

I see alot of people have problems with others "reporting" them and thumbing down. It makes me sad and it seems to be happening for spite and not content or any real violation.

I don't have any friends on here but I would think that just as in real life people have biases and pick their friends answers strictly for that reason.

Just in case you feel that you have been slighted, please don't take it to heart. I think you have very good questions AND answers and I enjoy reading them.

I do not have "friends", I do not allow e-mail or IMs. I rarely read the names of the answerers, I just choose what I think is the best answer. If I wanted "friends or a chat I would go into the chat rooms lol. If you read the "suggestion boards" you may find that most people complaining about VNs blame vindictive contacts (friends?) or people who have previously e-mailed them and with whom they have fallen out. Take YA for what it is, a knowledge sharing site, there should be no favouritism, of course we prefer people who endorse and support our answers, but denigrating or reporting those who do not, or favouring those who do, is not what it is about.

I do have some favorites on here. I love to read their questions and look forward to reading their answers. I do not pick a Best Answer on the basis of who it is from. I read all the answers carefully and pick the one I feel is superior. This isn't a school test where a certain answer is right or wrong. It boils down to personal preferences.

Yes, in fact I have seen it and I did remark on it the other day, I myself have giving the same exact answer to a question before someone else and they receive best answer, I have seen people say I agree with another post and get best answer,

I seriously read all the answers, and usually one will stick in my mind and they are the one I choose.

I like you, and many of the Seniors on here. I know no one though. So the choices I make are all made fair.

    Good Question. Have a Star!
