For Those Who Use Lev. 18:22 As An Argument Aginst Homosexuality?

Here are some other questions I'd like you to answer for me.

I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Why can't I own Canadians?

I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?

A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination - Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this?

Wow, you guys are all over-thinking this. . . it's part of a response to an Orthodox Jewish talk show host who stated recently that she doesn't condone homosexuality. Someone sent her a letter as a response with other such ridiculous laws from the Bible (Catholics and Christians do use the Old Testament as well, and Leviticus 18:22 is the pride and joy of any homophobe who uses religion as an excuse to be a bigoted idiot) and I found it on a community site I'm on and shared it with her. She posted it here to see what people would say. . . and you're all putting so much thought and effort into a response, instead of thinking about the questions as a whole. Which was the intention. . .

Much of what you point to in the Old Testament were functions of Mosaic Law and were fulfilled with the Atonement of Christ. You are correct that if we lived according to the code of the Old Testament, we would have a vastly different society. However, some things survived the passing of the Mosaic Law and were repeated in the covenant of the New Testament. The ban against homosexuality was one of those survivors. The New Testament clearly speaks against homosexuality yet does not include the harsh, immediate physical punishment that belonged to the Mosaic Law. The New Testament includes forgiveness and repentance. Thus, we still decry the act but not the actor. The sinner can still repent and be cleansed from their wrongful activity.

1.A fair price would be market driven. It would depend on where you live, and what the market is willing to pay. Note, however, that even the translation you use does not say slavery, but service. This was an indentured service. Normally it had an end date within seven years; however, in the case of daughters the release after that time was not allowed because the service was essentially an engagement for marriage.

2.Yes, you may still play football, with or without gloves. That is because a football is not made from pig skin. If it were, then it would probably be halachically improper to touch it, even if you were wearing gloves. The gloves, like anything you would be wearing, would probably be considered part of you. For a proper ruling, consult a reliable halachic authority.

3.You rely on just any friend for decisions on halacha? If he says you can’t keep Canadians, he is wrong. If you wish to legally hire a Canadian servant, if you can find one who is willing to work as a servant, that would be as acceptable as hiring a Mexican servant.

4.No, you can not kill him yourself. Well you can if you want to go to prison for murder.

He must be taken before the Bet Din (Rabbinic court) to determine whether or not he has violated the Sabbath. The Bet Din will then determine whether the death penalty is warranted. Note also that if your neighbor is not Jewish then he does not fall under the Law of Moses and is not required to keep Sabbath.

5.Nice try. But not even close to being accurate. The elements of the Jewish law that Jesus did away with were the ones that He personally fulfilled (e.g., the dietary restrictions, the passover lamb, etc). Christ did NOT claim to abolish the old testament law, He fulfilled it - a very fundamental and very important difference. Speaking in Matthew 5:17, Christ said, ""Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them." So the Old Testament teaching on homosexuality holds. In addition, Paul repeatedly taught against all sexual immorality, including homosexuality. Jesus was not (and is not)ONLY all about love as you say; He was also about righteousness. You need to read the rest of the book; Christ saves us UNTO good works. Meaning, His love frees us from our sins, so that we are free to live a righteous life - not any ole' life we choose.

Some argue that neither the Bible nor apostolic tradition condemns the practice of homosexuality. Passages such as Leviticus 18:22–30, Romans 1:26–27, 1 Corinthians 6:9, and Jude 7 serve as ample proof that Scripture indeed condemns homosexuality. Below is ample proof from tradition. The Fathers are especially harsh against the practice of pederasty, the homosexual corruption of boys by men.

    The Didache

"You shall not commit murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not commit pederasty, you shall not commit fornication, you shall not steal, you shall not practice magic, you shall not practice witchcraft, you shall not murder a child by abortion nor kill one that has been born" (Didache 2:2 [A.D. 70]).

The act of homosexuality is the sin , not the homosexual.

The Old Testament was nailed to the cross when Jesus was crucified. Hebrew 8:6 -13 tells of the old covenant went out and a new covenant for both Jews and Gentile came in. We are no longer under the Old Testament but we can still learn valueable lessons from it.

Romans 4:4 "For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

1 Corinthians 12:13 "For by one spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whethe we be bound or free; and have been all made to drink into one spirit."

Jesus died for all people and Israel (Jews) are no longer God's chosen people. Christ came to earth to seek and save the lost.

I'm a lesbian, however I did not discover out till very just lately. But now I realize why I wasn't excited about or having fun with hetero intercourse, and I would possibly not be going again to it. To me that does not make me much less of a gay. Some would argue that it makes me bisexual, however that is now not my feeling. I used to be in denial earlier than and now I'm doing the correct factor. I consider your pal.

    Literally, Lev. 18:22 translates:

"And with a male you shall not lay lyings of a woman."

If that made any sense to you, gold star. To me it reads (on the fifth time around or so) that you shouldn't have threesomes.

I hope posters who follow the NT instead keep their heads covered when speaking to men as Paul dictates (and if OP is male, should not be lecturing about doctrine at all.)

Try the New Testament then 1 Corinthians 6 NLT

9 Don't you know that those who do wrong will have no share in the Kingdom of God? Don't fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, who are idol worshipers, adulterers, male prostitutes, homosexuals, 10 thieves, greedy people, drunkards, abusers, and swindlers-none of these will have a share in the Kingdom of God. 11 There was a time when some of you were just like that, but now your sins have been washed away, [fn3] and you have been set apart for God. You have been made right with God because of what the Lord Jesus Christ and the Spirit of our God have done for you.

New testament never actually says homosexuals because the word does not exist in the original greek that the texts were written in. It is a mistranslation that is put into the bibles now.

so there goes Corinthians- besides, isn't it the account of Peter? Not Jesus?

Are you a JEW ? this is Jewish law first of all but Romans is New Testament

Rom 1:21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified [him] not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

Rom 1:22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

Rom 1:23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

Rom 1:24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:

Rom 1:25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

Rom 1:26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

Rom 1:27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

    Rom 1:28 And even as they did not like to retain God in [their] knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

Rom 1:29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,

Rom 1:30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

Rom 1:31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

Rom 1:32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
