Anyone know if USPS/fedex/ups give discounts for sending military?

My husband is leaving on deployment in a few months and this is our first deployment. I was wondering if USPS/fedex/ups give the spouces cheaper rates when sending care packages and letters to them while they are deployed over seas. If they do how do I get the discounted rates?

Thank you for your help.

The only discounted form of mailing through USPS that has a discounted postage cost is the Large Flat Rate Box. It MUST be addressed to an APO or FPO address.

The discount is $2, making the cost $10.95. This is the retail rate. You can further discount the postage if you use Click-n-Ship to print your shipping label. The Commercial Rate for the Large Flat Rate Box is $10.50 to APO/FPO.

You may also order Customs Decalration forms at usps.com as well as the boxes. If it is available in your area, you amy also schedule, online, a Free Carrier Pickup for the next day, as long as your items are all ready to go. You must have at least one Priority Mail or Express Mail item to use this service thaough.

In addition, from the other end, there are certain APO/FPO ZIP Codes that are entitled to the "Free Military Mail" service. Service persons in certain combat zones may send ordinary letters at no charge by simply writing the word "FREE" in the postage area. The DoD picks up the postage costs for those letters.

Please thank your husband, and thank you , for your service to our country. From one Viet-Nam Era Disabled Vet to another vet. Keep your head down

USPS has a priority box that is labeled specifically for APO/FPOs.

    From the USPS website:

"The Priority Mail Large Flat Rate Box ships for $2.00 less when sent to an overseas APO or FPO address. Price is based on qualifying ZIP Code.

A military-branded Priority Mail APO/FPO Flat Rate Box is available and can be ordered online."

UPS and FedEx will cause you to go broke trying to ship to him. Neither one will allow a PO box, and only use a phyical address.

Actually, USPS has a military discount or program. They are your best route. Especially if you are sending to an APO address, rates will be way cheaper then either ups/fedex. USPS is federal and pretty accomdiating to military packages.

Ck out the USPS. free supplies.Military Care Package Kit

Since Priority Mail service supplies are the packaging of choice for families preparing care packages for service members overseas, the USPS has created a "Mili-kit" based on the items most frequently requested by the military.

    The kit contains:

Three (3) each of flat rate boxes O-FRB1 and O-FRB2

Two (2) each of Cube boxes OBOX7

    Address labels - Label # 228 8 each

    Address labels - Label # 106-A 1 each

    Customs FORM 2976-A 8 EA.

    Customs FORM 2976-E 8 EA.

The kit may be requested by calling 1-800-610-8734 (Packing Supply) and:

Choose your language (1 is English, 2 is Spanish).

Choose option 1 (it states it is for Express Mail service, Priority Mail or Global Express Guaranteed).

When you reach a live agent, request CAREKIT04.

Please allow 7-10 days for delivery.

Note: These are free supplies, postage must be affixed.

Busch Gardens will allow the person in the military in the park once a year for free. All Anhausser-Busch theme Parks do this. It only applies to the active duty service member though, not the family. However, on post discount tickets are usually available. The rates very based on whatever kind of deal the USO is working, but every penny saved helps.

I believe the post office does on flat rate boxes only. It never really seemed that much of a difference, I typically go the the ups store because it is always less busy and worth the extra few bucks to be in and out of there very quickly, especially since I have toddlers. As for how, you can go on to the usps website and have boxes sent to you for free and then you probably just let them know when you take it.

You generally cannot use UPS/FEDEX to oversea military bases. You must use the USPS (APO/FPO addresses). You pay only domestic rates.

No. There is no discount rate. USPS offers flat rate boxes in two sizes that you can stuff for one flat rate. There are no discounts just for being military.

This is my husband's 8th deployment in 4 years. I've spent quite a penny on packages for him over the years.
