LCMS Lutheran, back in the US, missing our "family" in England. I'm also an USAF spouse, mom, teacher, Girl Scout, and general volunteer queen. I've been blessed that we've lived in some wonderful countries, explored the world, and made some wonderful friends.

  • Any experience, good and/or bad, with a Kia Sorento?

We are looking at purchasing a new car and am just trying to get feedback from folks who have the Sorento. We're ready to move down from a mini-van and like the gas mileage, but still want a good size vehicle. We've talked to one person, but we want more feedback.

    Thanks!

  • Why do perspective E-7's in the Army not know where to go to get promotion information?

Seriously, I've seen so many questions on here about this. You don't see the other branches doing this. And from the answers I've seen, the process is basically the same. You are given a cut off date for testing and boards, you know when the board meets, and you know approximately when the release date is for selects. Do they not post this info on the army website anywhere? How do the folks up for promotion not know this info, especially since they are on the verge of becoming SNCO's??

    Just wondering.......

  • Single mom given admin discharge instead of Court Martial .... comments?

Well, it's official. The Army dropped charges and just gave her a discharge. So, she still has all of her VA benefits, etc. even though she refused to answer the call to duty.

How does everyone else feel about it?

  • New land line phone needed?

Our old land line phones are dying and we need to replace them. The phone system we are on is not digital, if that makes a difference. We prefer at least 2 handsets, with a base and an answering machine. It's been 7 years since we last bought phones, so I'm going out clueless as to what is available now.

Any suggestions or recommendations would be great! Even things to avoid would come in handy.

  • March ARB... Any info on the area?

We just got our equal listing, and as March is a reserve base there is little info available in the traditional channels. So.. I need your help. Looking for info on mainly schools and housing. But, also input from active duty who have been assigned and worked with reservists.

    Thanks!

  • Van or SUV type car, hybrid with MPG over 30?

We're looking at buying a new car next summer, something to replace our van. We still need something large (we travel a lot, and I work with the Girl Scouts). But the best I've been seeing for MPG is around 25. Has anyone seen anything better? Or know of anything coming out on the market??

  • Christians, evolution, and taking high school biology?

Ok, I'm concerned... 16 year old goes to public school, raised in a Christian home, yet refused to take HS Biology because they will cover evolution... about 3 weeks out of the entire year course!

I'm a practicing Christian, a teacher, and a mom. Is this nuts or is it just me?? Biology is so much more than evolution and it's an essential part of our education.

  • Older cat, going blind, make life comfortable?

Our cat is 17 and hyperthyroid. Now she is going blind. What can I do to help her, make life a little easier for her? We know not to move things around, but she is spotting and pooping in strange places and has been crying. At this point medical intervention is not the point, just quality of life.

We lost her sister/littermate last Christmas, and I'm sure it's just a matter of time with her.
