Focus on the Family's prayer for rain--what do y'all think?

This "humorous" Stoplight video from Focus on the Family asks people to pray for "torrential, small-stream-flooding, an umbrella ain't gonna help you rain" on a specific time and place.

No, not any of the California fires. Denver, over the stadium where Barack Obama is set to deliver his nomination speech, that very night.

As a Witch, I'm thinking, "And we're the ones who get accused of cursing other people?" I'm also thinking there are *much* better places to pray for rain if you're going to do that.

What do y'all think?

Update:

Starofsong, I wasn't aware that there was a drought in Colorado, which is FOTF's home state, as well.

I hope you get rain any way you can get it!

I had not heard of that... it is interesting to say the least. But I thought when I saw your question on YA that you meant that Dr. Dobson was wanting people to pray for rain, because Colorado is so dry. We just got back from being there in Colorado last week and it was so very brown everywhere. It looked like a desert to me. It wasn't lush and breathtakingly beautiful like it used to be. I am all for people praying for rain for Colorado, because it really does need it. As for when God sends the rain, that is entirely up to Him. I don't know if God will honor our prayers for rain if it is to do it in order to hurt someone such as Barack Obama, but He will definitely answer our prayers if it is to help someone or something, like to make the barren places (Colorado) green and growing again.

I concur--people like James Dobson and his Focus on the Family give Christianity a very bad name. They are extremely poor examples to follow.

Now...when it comes to the subject of "praying for rain", even as a Christian I recognize that the Wiccans would be more likely to have a beneficial effect here since they are more in touch with Nature.

No, I am not like other Christians.

Who will defend the defenseless? Stuart Shepherd and I make two, but here are others. Many others. I am praying that God would send unforecasted, heavy rain over the stadium two minutes before the speech begins, that you might understand who is really in control.

The prophet Elijah was just a man like the rest of us, and when he prayed, God kept the rain for three years.

    Be still and know God.

If they had half a brain on them, they would know that out here in California, we already have the technology to affect and change the weather - no prayers needed...

See what religion gets you?? Cant even keep up with current science!!

Seriously - at least that will keep them busy wasting their time praying, rather than picketing.

I think it's a GREAT idea! The more specific the request, the better! This is potentially the test that will PROVE the existence and power of God!

    Or not.

That's sooooo Christian of them isn't it?

    LoL

From their perspective... if Obama truly was so awful.... why is "Jesus" allowing him to speak that night anyway?

I guess if people have nothing better to do with their time than pray to an invisible sky daddy to throw down drops of water on a politician..... more power to em, I on the other hand have a job.

Well, it's absurd of them to think it'll make any difference whatsoever. More than that, it's petty and sophomoric, the type of thing you'd expect from middle schoolers wanting their rival to miss out on well-deserved attention.

They need to focus on their own families for a change

Once again, James Dobson and his groupies prove they're certifiable.
