My computer turns on, then off?

I have a Dell 2400. (I'm not on it now, obviously) My computer turns on and everything, and right when the desktop and everything should load, it turns off, then on. How can I fix this?

there might be something loose in the computer. open it up and make sure there is nothing loose. does it boot to windows if it does you might have a virus. try a linux live cd and see if your computers functions alright if it does then it is not your computer but windows. If that is the case the easiest method would be to reinstall windows after backing up your data with the linux cd. Same thing happened to one of my friend's pc and that was the only way i could fix it.

    good luck
