Upromise is kind of like a savings account. If you register with the company, you will receive small cash "credits" when you do business with merchants who participate. When you're ready for school, you can request that the funds that you've "earned" and "saved" be applied to your educational expenses.

Upromise also does some strange dance around the subject of student loans. They go to great trouble to assure you that they're not lenders, but then again, they can help you get a loan. (shrug). If you want "in" on the secret - they're a part of Sallie Mae, and they'll happily send you over to Sallie Mae for your borrowing needs.

To the best of my knowledge (and I couldn't find anything on their web page that suggested otherwise), UPromise does not award scholarships.

I hope that helped. Good luck!
