Can anyone tell me how to tell the age of an oil painting?

Is it expensive to have a painting appraised and where and how would I get that done? Are there places online or a good website that could help?

Its best to see an appraiser in person. You may have to pay but its worth it to know the value. You could also try taking it into an antique shop but beware that if its of value, they may not tell you the truth in hopes they can buy it from you below its value.

You can also call an art gallery and maybe they can help.

Look in the phone book for Appraisers. Call them and ask.
