Military Pay Question?

I'm deploying to Iraq in early 2009, I am an E-4 with 4 years of service. I am not married or have dependants. I will be in the sandbox getting shot at, not on a ship. Someone please give me a ballpark estimate of how much money I will have when I come back. I greatly appreciate it. The deployment is just for 7 months and yes I know after the first month the income is tax free besides social security. Thanks again.

ok, so army- gets $100 save pay, and $225 HDP (hostile duty pay). On top of your base pay. And no taxes. I don't know about the rest of the military... but thats what i got paid. If you don't spend anything in the SB.... you can clear some dollars. And there's no need to spend any money down there. I've got a friend that spend $20 a month, and came back with close to $30,000. She was also there for 12months.

I can't remember how much I made over there as an E4, but I do know it was A LOT. You already know it's tax free too I guess. You'll get a series of hazardous duty pays along with a COLA adjustment and possibly BAS. I had all my bills paid off in no time.

It's not uncommon for troops to have upwards of 20K saved after 12 months or more in the SB. Good Luck and wear the damn Kevlar :).

Well, if you dont spend anything you could have about 28,500 in the bank. Not bad for 7 months.
