Are there any liquor review sites similar to BeerAdvocate or RateBeer?

I want to be able to see the hype about brands of liquor before I buy them but I haven't found any websites that would be able to help me.

Not really, no. The websites of publications such as Whisky Magazinehave forums where people can help you separate hype from reality. Those periodicals can help you, too, since they often have professional reviews of beverages.

Even on Y!A you can get some answers if you talk specifics. Asking for people's favorite whisky here is likely to get two scotch drinkers, a cheap bourbon drinker, and ten people saying whisky is gross and you should stick to flavored Smirnoff, but if you say, "What do you think about such-and-such a brand", you're more likely to get serious responses.

Bwhahaha that was an awesome answer.

To the point I don't know of a alcohol review site. The topic has come up on beeradvocate in the past and I've never really seen anything comparable come up in those discussions.

The ones the first poster mentioned have ratings and/or reviews but not really user submitted content at length that you'd find on BA or ratebeer.
