Recommended Novels? (Not Twilight etc)
Got a couple of weeks off work ahead and I'm dying to sink my teeth into some new novels. What would you recommend as essential reading?
(Including Classics. I loved The Portrait of Dorian Grey and Wuthering Heights)
Sorry, and I suppose being on Ryans account hasn't helped.
I'm a 17 year old female. Have loved to read since primary school. But to be honest I'm not looking just for books directed at my age.

Anything by Jane Austin especially Mansfield Park is worth it. I constantly reread Sherri Reynolds' A Gracious Plenty. It has the most beautiful concept of the afterlife I have ever read.
A Year of Wonders is stark, deeply moving and hopeful
A Secret Life of Bees is amazing.
If you want something laugh out loud funny I recommend anything by Christopher Moore.
Marion Zimmer Bradley's Mists of Avalon is the retelling of the story of King Arthur and his knights but from his sisters perspective. It is really great.
Charles Dickens Bleak House and Great Expectations. I highly recommend reading these. He is brilliant.
The Count of Monte Cristo. I believe you should read this every couple of years as where you are emotionally in your own life will effect how you read and relate to this story.
The House of Seven Gables. Fun and interesting.
The Lady in White - Collins - such a great gothic tale.
Have fun!

Lauren Willig's historical fiction
Jennifer Weiner's creme de la creme of chick lit (some of the only chick lit NOT about shopping)
Gone With The Wind
Memoirs of a Geisha
Cold Mountain
How We Survived Communism and Even Laughed
Battle Cry of Freedom
Maybe some good biographies if you are into that... not novels, but still often a good read...

Stephen King has good novels, like Firestarter. Animal Farm by George Orwell is also a good book. Farenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury.

Included is a list of only the best sorcery fantasy books, grade reading level, a short review of each book along with a brief summary of adult content. There is also a "Reader's Choice" list of favorite books, and a list of heroine sorcery fantasy books.
Also these: http://www.interleaves.org/~rteeter/grtother.html#... . Lots of lists, but I especially like the Harvard Classics list - all the books that I should have read, but (mostly) never did.
Finally, these: http://www.awardannals.com/wiki/Honor_roll:Genres - pick your genre, find the best books ranked by how many awards they've won.
I hope this helps.

Okay for a teen I would suggest the book Fairest. It's back in the medieval time. But it's very very good! I love it! And I believe that if your looking for romance this book is perfect! It even has some action to keep your attention.

I'd love to answer your question, but can you first specify if you are a male/female or an adult/young adult? Because I can really only help if you are a young adult female. Sorry I can't be of more help.
