Why Can't John McCain Close the Deal with Voters?

Senator John McCain has years of Congressional 'experience', he has years of military service, he is a national hero for being a POW during the Vietnam War, and he been sometimes called a maverick in the Republican Party.

Wasn't it John McCain that pushed for more troops in Iraq? Isn't he claiming that surge worked?

As every political pundit and campaign has said, McCain is up against a man (Obama) with very little national political experience. Senator McCain is even claiming that Barack Obama is just a celebrity star like Brittney Spears, meaning he has no sustance.

Why then, can't Senator John McCain 'Close' the deal with voters?

    Attitude weigh more than seniority.

Because the vast majority of black voters have bought into the idea that because Obama black (even though he's actually half-black), he'll put the needs of blacks above everyone else. Sadly, this will not be the case. Before the racist commenst fly, I'd vote for Colin Powell in a minute. A great man, a measured leader, the list goes on. His biography, An American Journey was terrific.

Because he continually ignores the right and caters to the center. The polls you see on tv/internet everyday don't even include the far right... most of them (us) are so upset with McCain's center strategy that we're not considering voting.

If he does start to get his act together and act like a real republican, then he will win over the majority of our votes, and will smash Obama in November... until then, he is playing with fire.

Who says he can't. In case you haven't noticed Obama is dropping dramatically in the polls. Now this is not really due to any action on McCain's part, but rather the fact that Obama is his own worst enemy. However, McCain is the primary beneficiary. The real answer to your question is because McCain is wishy washy. He is a Democrat who is afraid to join the Democratic Party. This guy just does not sit well with many Republicans, but they will vote for him because Obama scares the hell out of them.

Because it's hard to figure out what he is standing for. One day, he says he is against raising taxes and next day he says "nothing is off the table". One day he is all for staying in Iraq, and then he is OK getting out. He says he stands for American people (which is very generic), and then fails to explain how his strategies will actually help people like you and me. Obama might not have been there for as long as McCain, but he has a clear vision of where he wants to take this country and he did lay out the details. Those who like his vision support him. Most of who are going to vote for McCain at this point are those who happen not to like Obama for one reason or another.

He's trying to distance himself from the Bush administration, but he also is trying to get the conservatives vote. He's also trying to appeal to the liberals. Obama is concentrating on the liberals and swing voters which are easier for him to get. Obama has had so much controversy within his campaign that he loses votes alot faster.

Per the most recent Gallop Poll Obama & McCain are tied. So, I would have to ask.... why can't Obama keep his voters?
