Lawyers or people with rental experience only, this pertains to Washington State

If you move into a house, pay first and last month's rent up front, live there for 5 years, and then give 30 days notice, which the lease requires: Can the landlord demand the difference in rent between what you paid for last month's rent and what the rent is now?

Hmm. Whenever I sign a new lease (with higher rates) I have to pay the first and last month's rent for the new lease period.

I would say look at your contract. But it would make sense that you have to pay the difference, since the rent is higher now.
