Already asked this but only got one answer!! How much should a 6 month old be sleeping during the day?
My daughter sleeps 10-12 hours a night, although she often wakes up once or twice during the night. Sometimes she sleeps most of the day as well where as sometimes she doesn't have a nap at all.. Just wondering what is considered normal..? And whether I should let her sleep all day or try and keep her awake a bit more..?
Or more to the point.. how much does/did YOUR 6 months old sleep..

It is OK that she is sleeping that way but you need to et her on a good schedule. I is important that she takes at least 2 naps during the day. One should be around 10 or 11 am and another about 5 or 6. I would try to keep her on a 4 to 5 hour schedule between naps. The one about noon should be a hour or two and the late afternoon should be only a half of an hour to an hour. Then they should be ready for bedtime any time after 9pm. This should get her on a better routine of sleeping all the way through the night. If you have any trouble trying to keep her awake during the day try leaving her lay in the middle of the floor while you are doing your house work around her. She will still feel like you are close and doing something with her. There is not really a NORMAL routine for all children. Each one has their one.

Each baby is different. Professionals say a 6 month old baby should be awake for no longer than 2 hours at a time. This 2 hours begins from when they first wake to when they have their next nap. This all depends on your baby though. Is she a bit grumpy during the day? Is she showing tired signs like rubbing eyes yawning etc? If she is doing this then she would be better off having a sleep. dont go by the book because each baby is not the same, judge your baby for yourself as to when she looks tired etc but make sure you get her to bed as soon as she shows she is slightly tired because as you probably already know babies are anightmare to settle once they are over tired. My daughter is 5 months and sleeps for at least 1 hour every 1 1/2 hours and 11 hours overnight.

Your child will let you know how much sleep they need. I am a firm believer of some kind of routine, but this has to be flexible too. You can't get this information from a book as your child will know best!
If they stop sleeping at night, then you should keep them awake more during the day. If they have had a busy day, then you may find they sleep more than if they have a had a quiet day at home having cuddles. It all depends.
As long as baby is eating well and drinking well, then you should have no worries.
6 months old is a weird stage for sleeping anyway, as it is about now the baby is finding a new sleep pattern for themselves. I expect over the next few weeks the day sleeps will decrease. Enjoy the peace while you have it!
If you are still worried then take your baby to a midwife/health visitor/ obgyn and see what they say.
Good luck!

My son use to go down between 6pm - 7.30pm and would wake up around 5amish (with a few wake ups during the night). he would then have a morning nap for 30 - 60mins around 8amish, have another sleep just after lunch for an hr or so and then back down at 6. I would let her do what she is doing but if you are worried speak to your doctor. My son is now almost 1. He only has 1 sleep during the day generally and he now sleeps from 7.30-8pm through to 6amish with one - two wakes during the night.

Some babies need more sleep than others. I wouldn't wake her, unless she is sleeping so much that she doesn't eat and starts losing weight.
The ideal routine for a baby is eat-play-sleep ,with most babies needing a sleep after 2 hours awake. Many babies don't get that much sleep, but many babies are also chronically overtired.
A 6 month old baby needs 14-15 hours sleep a day. If your daughter is sleeping well at night, don't do anything to change her patterns. If you try to keep her awake during the day, she will get overtired and will then sleep less at night. That happened to my daughter and I had to retrain her to sleep well during the day before she started sleeping at night again.

Hi -
I don't know for sure what "normal" for this age is but can tell you about mine.
My seven month old sleeps from around 8pm until 7am - usually without waking. He then has naps about an hour long during the day at 9am, 11.30am, 2.30pm, 4.30pm.
I am a big believer in letting a sleeping baby sleep. So whatever times she sleeps during the day are "normal" as she will sleep when she is tired and stay up when she is not.
Hope this helped.

My two children were completely different with sleeps.
My daughter had two sleeps of one and a half hours a day and 12 hours at night at 6 months. (Roughly)
My son had two sleeps of one and a half hours and then a 45 min cat nap around tea time, then 12-13 hours over night at 6 months.
If you are at all concerned you could speak to your child health visitor and get your daughter assessed for her milestones and see how she is going. Some kids just need more sleep than others.

Your baby sounds completely normal. They tend to sleep more just before a growth spurt too. Since she sleeps so well at night I wouldnt worry too much about her wakeful days. Two sleeps a day for 1-4 hours each time is considered "normal" for her age but each baby is different. I would say just keep doing what you are doing x x x

At 6 months, an infant may nap about 3 hours during the day and sleep about 11 hours at night. At this age, you can begin to change your response to an infant who awakens and cries during the night.

My baby girl at six months went from 3 sleeps a day down to 2.
She sleeps for about an twp and a half hours in the morning 9-1130
then she sleeps for about the same in the afternoon 1pm-330
she cut the last one out from 430-6pm, so now i just keep her up and she play and tires her self out and i put her to bed around 730 and then sleeps through to 730am the next morning.
