I live in Florida. What costs less to run a a ceiling fan or central AC set at aprox 75 degrees.

Also, what's a good website to visit to help me answer general power saving questions myself. I have electric everything and run a pool filter about 8 hours per day during the summer (ouch!).

Thanks, folks!

An excellent source for this kind of information is often the utility company itself. they make the most money on the fixed part of the rates they charge, so they actually like to have you consume less electricity, especially in an area that is growing in usage. So they often have a staff of people who will help you figure out answers to these kinds of questions. I'm going to guess that the ceiling fan is considerably cheaper than the central air at 75 degrees, depending on where you are in Florida.

A ceiling fan is cheaper. Setting the AC at 75 with it being so hot here in FL, the AC will likely run continuously. I set mine at 77 or 78 and I use ceiling fans to help make it feel cooler. This way the AC is not running as much. I would also try cutting back on how long the pool filter runs.

Below is a link to Florida Power and Lights website. It gives some energy saving tips. Other FL electric companies might have similar websites.

A ceiling fan is a lot less expensive to run than an air conditioner. A ceiling fan is about 1cent an hour but a central air conditioner is 43 cents an hour, according to this electric coop page: http://www.booneelectric.coop/coop/tips2.htm

This is the cost in MO - yours is probably a little different.

The fan is the less expensive by a long shot. Humidity may be a problem especially in Florida. You don't want everything to start molding. Enjoy the sun.

If your only concern is the cost ,the fan will cost the least.

if you compare the comfort level i'm sure the a/c will be the most comfortable .the a/c/ will remove the humidity which is better for you and the house.
