If your favorite player on your favorite team got traded to another team...?
...Would you still be a fan of that player?
I was just thinking...Jason Varitek is obviously my favorite player out of all players...and he always will be no matter what team he goes to.. I like Manny & Pedro a lot too and I still consider myself to be a fan of them. But other guys like Johnny Damon & Nomar Garciaparra who I was a fan of, I don't really consider myself to be a fan of anymore.
So, I was just wondering what other baseball fans thought. :)

I would still follow him, for sure, and I would support him to an extent.
The best situation I can relate this to is Joe Torre. I was so attached to Joe and I wish him all the luck in the world. But during the off-season, after his contract issues went down, a Yankees fan said, "I hope Joe and his Dodgers win the World Series!"
I draw the line there, for sure. I wish Joe luck, but I still want the Yankees to win the World Series.
Yes, I would still follow the player and support him, but only so far. My boys on my team always come first.

Just happened... and I'll always be a Manny fan. He is entertaining and fun and a damn good hitter... the best Righty in the game and he was tailor made for Fenway... Its a shame that both these stubborn egos had to hurt eachother like they did, the Red Sox management and Manny.
are you asking cause you read the writing on the wall that Tek isn't gonna have an easy bargin with the Red Sox this fall? He's gonna want years... the Red Sox never give years.
I don't hate Damon as much as I used to, I think the Red Sox botched that one, he's only been to the DL once since he left Boston...and he was the face of the team, and a catalist for the offense... They really haven't had a definate leadoff catalist since he left... Ellsbury still needs another year or so... when that trade went down I was pissed! Yankees always do that tho.
Nomar, they got that one right... Nomar is worthless now, has been since spring 04. I don't think anyone in Boston likes Nomar anymore.
I'm dying to see what Braves fans say to this Question...

Of course, you stay loyal to the player, not the team! I mean, for Red Sox fans, it's a whole different story. When Damon went to New York, I lost all respect for him. He said earlier in that year that he would never leave Boston just to make more money, and what did he do after the season? Picked up a lucrative contract with who, but the Yankees. I also liked Nomar, but we just don't see him anymore. He is in a mid-market team in the NL West, and I think we just forgot about him. I think if you like a player, and he happens to get dealt by the team, being a fan is still alright. Manny asked to be traded many times over the last few years, and I stopped liking him after the grief he put the organization through.

I truly believe that we all, first and foremost, root for our favorite teams, however we always seem to gravitate to certain players. As a Yankee fan I always found myself checking the box scores everyday just to see what "Yaz" and "Dewey" did the day before. I was always a big fan of those two even though they wore the Red Sox uniform. It was the class and the integrity that attracted me to them.
I always liked Nomar and still do. I personally believe that the Red Sox did him wrong, but that's just my opinion.
If Jason were to be traded I'm sure you will still continue to follow his career. Why, because he's your favorite player.
As you know my favorite player of all time was Mickey Mantle. I'm sure that if he had been traded I would still root for the Yankees but I would also have rooted for "The Mick 7" as well!

Many years ago my favorite player got traded to another team. This was a very well known player and he got into a fair amount of trouble and embarrassed his team. He had three suspensions in one year. I stayed with my old team. He didn't do well for his new team and then was send to another team and went down to the minors and came up with another team in the National League. The next year he was in spring training and got released, a few days before he turned 29. I believe he is in jail now for the third time. My loyalty didn't follow him after he left the Tigers.

Already happened to me. The Yankees traded Dave Winfield to the Angels in '88. I was NOT happy and my love for the Yanks was standing on shaky ground. But I never abandoned the team. I'll always be a Yankees fan.
But I still love Dave Winfield and he's still my all-time favorite player. I even rooted for the Blue Jays in '92 so he could win a World Series ring. Seeing him back in Pinstripes this weekend for Old Timers Day was so nice and so fitting for me.

Depends...
I still like Mark Derosa and Alfonso Soriano, but not Mark Teixeira.
It depends on how they leave and how much I like them.
Like, I would probably still love Ian Kinsler or Michael Young even if they got traded to my least favorite team in the world (that'd be the Yankees).
I think of all the Rangers, I have loved Michael Young from the start, and I've believed in Ian ever since his rookie year. So my attachment to them is the strongest. =D I would love both of them wherever they went.
On the other hand, I was not happy with Teixeira when he left, because it seemed to me that he just left for the money. Like A-Rod.
So I don't consider myself a fan of his anymore.
Mark Derosa and Alfonso Soriano are a different story. I still like them and root for them, but I definitely don't feel as strongly for them now as I did when they played for the Rangers.
I really like the current Rangers team. With guys like Hamilton, Murphy, Davis, and even the hot-tempered Milton Bradley, I just feel attached to this team.
I would have been upset if Jon Daniels traded anyone this year. (He didn't) =D.
But there you go. I guess it really depends on who you're talking about.

Usually, I will stay a fan of the player. I have no animosity toward Manny. As much as the relationship worked well for both the team and him, it had run its course. When he got to LA and had his press conference he saluted the fans.
Damon, on the other hand, dissed us all. It would have beenbad enough to just ignore us, but he gave off bad mojo. I never turned on a player as fast as i did on him.

I love Josh Hamilton with the Rangers right now.
100+ RBIs
I dont wanna lose that to any team.
I am still a big fan of Marc Texiera even if hes with a rival.
I could care less for Pudge and A-rod

My favorite player Ken Griffey, Jr., just got traded from the Reds to the White Sox. I followed him when he was with the Mariners, too. I will continue to see how he does with the White Sox, but meanwhile I have found a different favorite player with the Reds in Jay Bruce. I only continue following players that are my favorite, too.
