Why do Yahoo Answers deducts points for asking questions ?

Yahoo answers only rewards Answerer Where as Every answer must have a Question ( In fact every question has more that one Answerer !) .Shouldn't the Questioner get more points as that requires some wisdom too ?

LOSING POINTS WHEN ASKING A QUESTION►

♦The main reason why we LOSE points when we ask a question is that this site encourages us MORE to ANSWER.Also its just like an ordinary trade. You ask a question and you lose 5 points. But the time when you choose a Best Answer you 'GET BACK' 3 points. So the actual COST of a question is 2 points which you can get back just by answering one.Its a pretty 'FAIR TRADE'!!!

  • Yes, I completely agree with you. But then if every question is rewarded points, then i believe people might misuse the point system by unnecassrily asking stupid questions. Moreover, people post questions to have their doubts cleared or for some or the other sort of help. Thus, only genuine questions would come forward. Then again, Y!A isnt that un-considerate as we assume it to be. For every best answer the asker chooses, he gets back 3 points of the 5 points he lost while asking. And if he doesnt get any best answer chosen by the voters then Y!A gives back all the 5 points. Its a pity though that Y!A doesnt return the points if no answer was given. I think it should introduce that too.

So at the end i feel it to be justified that Y!A is right in reducing points for asking questions.

No, this is not the correct presumption. You want to resolve something, for that you just have to offer something, and yahoo takes away the point from you and wisdom to some extent lies in asking question, but full wisdom is required to answer to a particular question. And it takes time to answer any question.

The person submitting the answer is certainly more intelligent in answering that question. So the correct principal is adopted by Yahoo.

Both are equally important, in my opinion. I don't see why lose points for asking a question, you could gain some points as well for that as for answering. But, after all, it's called yahoo answers, not yahoo questions... lol.

cos evry question asked adds traffic to the site and it is hard to control.. limited number of Yahoo personnel to handle.. so the 5 points deduction would discourage people from asking many qns, cos they wud kno tat they are gonna be at loss... it is all a 'ploy' to ensure that the traffic in Yahoo answers is under control... :)

If you could ask questions for free perhaps too many people would for ever keep asking questions without ever answering any questions.

The whole idea of charging points for asking questions is to encourage people to answer questions as well because if you keep asking questions without ever answering any questions your points credit will be down to zero before you know it.

It's the rule of the universe.

You loose something to gain something. In this case for gaining wisdom, one looses points. And the one answering gets points for spreading knowledge.

    It's simple give and take....

if they reward points for asking question.. most of the people will ask stupid questions to want them to make their score high.... Which dosen't make sense

Yahoo answers is only to share the Knowledge...
