Recording Guitar to PC?
I have my electric guitar plugged into an effects pedal and then into the soundcard on my pc. I can record and playback with effects but the problem is, I can't hear what I'm playing as I record. What software will have a monitor function where my PC will allow me to hear what I'm playing while it records? Should I just do it the old fashioned wat and use a mic in front of my guitar amp?

I use this cheap little thing

It has amp modeling and you can monitor through the computer
What you can try and do is right click on the speaker icon in the bottom right of the screan and select playback device. Then put the volumes up on everything and play around untill you hear the input through your speakers
Another way is to use a double ended headphone jack

And plug one end in the headphone input of your effects pedal and then the other end into your speakers or computer speakers
What I do is plug my sterieo into the headphone jack so I can hear what I am playing aswell as the computer recording : )
hope that helps

The "old fashioned way" is how they do it in recording studios nine times out of ten.
The reason for this is that the amp forms an important part of an electric guitarist's sound.

First check your sound cards mixer and make sure that is not the issue
to go any further we would need to know what soundcard and software you are using.....Though you should not be having this problem

I find the best way is using a mic in front of your amp. But with audacity you can monitor what you are recording and best thing its free. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/
