Why do I get a pain in the side of my head when swallowing?
Hi, this is a health related question and I'm really hoping someone could offer some advice, information, reassurance or has had a similar symptom.
Basically, about three weeks ago I felt quite ill, I had a tickly throat, twinges in my nose, head and nose and most annoyingly a pain in the right side of m head on swallowing - whether it was food, drink or simply saliva.
After a while I felt much better but this week (on Monday) I got the pain in my head back again and now the rest of the symptoms have returned also. It's not really painful but it is uncomfortable and also slightly worrying as I have never had anything like this before and have now experienced it twice in almost as many weeks.
I don't know whether to go to the Doctor and feel a bit hesitant about going because he might say that my problem isn't serious enough or that I'm time wasting.
Any reply would be great, thanks a lot.

P.s. The pain is on the right side of my head, above my ear and close to my temple.

I am wondering if you have an ear infection? It sounds like you have had a viral illness or infection of the throat and the bacteria could have travelled into your ear. There is such a thing as referred pain, does it respond to pain relief? It might even be dental problem in either case you should get it checked out by a Dr/Dentist.
I hope this helps you and good luck.

Where exactly on the side of your head are you experiencing this?
Initial thoughts an ears nose and throat infection as they are all connected.
I have had sore head from earache before now and cotton wool plugged in there to keep it all warm is a good start after few days its should look after itself if you are a healthy non-smoker.
If the pain is uncomfortable use a heated wheat bag around the area to relax and soothe and an Ibroprofen.
Unless its a trapped nerve see acupuncturist, to be safe NHS is hopeless.

If you don't want to 'bother your doctor' why not ring NHS Direct? They are there to help with just such apparently minor queries. The phone line is staffed by qualified nurses who should be able to help you.
