That pretty much sums it up. The richest 5% in this country pay 66% of total income taxes. The majority of the people with income of 75,000+ support McCain. So yes, it looks like GOP represents the largest chunk of federal income.

Everyone in America is a tax payer. In the U.S. there is no zero percent tax bracket. Even State Unemployment Insurance income is taxed. Tax money is consumed by the the operations of the government. Welfare expense to the federal government is usually in the low single digit percents each year. If the GOP was for the tax payer, they would not have increased the size and cost of the federal government during the six years they controlled both Congress and the White House.

Sure the Dems want tax consumers to believe they want to take care of the Nation. What I don't understand is who they think is going to pay for all those programs for the 'tax consumers' if they tax the rich into the 'shelter' house. Like it or not, if the Dems overtax the rich they will find tax shelters and offshore accounts etc. Then what?

No...not at all.
The focus should not be GOP vs Dems or tax payers vs tax consumers. The reality that you've grossly overlooked in your question is that Middle Class America is suffering badly. Middle Class America is the heart of America and they end up footing the bill for GOP mistakes. In the end, who do you think will have the burden of cleaning up the Bush/Cheney fiscal disaster? The Middle Class will...regardless of which party individuals support.
It boils down to the fact that certain tax payers (some Republicans) think that their money is wasted on needless social programs as if they are the ONLY wealthy people being taxed. This is the sentiment of a percentage of people who clearly don't like taxation and politicize their dislike. (I'm not saying that anything is wrong with disliking taxation. The distinction is that some tax payers vent their frustration/dislike by politicizing it...)
There are thousands of filthy rich Democrats. (It's absurd to think that only Republicans are wealthy.) How often do you hear of Bill Gates or Oprah complaining of taxation? Sure, they may dislike it but they don't base their political preference solely on taxation. If so, you would have seen at least a few Oprah shows or Ellen shows or Dave Letterman episodes with a strong stand against taxation.
Whoopi Goldberg stated the hard "truth" not long ago when she asserted that regardless of what politicians promise, taxation is likely to increase (maybe in a disguised way - my interjection...) regardless of the party.
Don't forget Bush #1 - "Read my lips!"
Mark Warner, a past governor (democratic) of Virginia with presidential potential and mastermind behind Nextel, is VERY wealthy but he doesn't have that exaggerated stand against taxation as some GOP business tycoons do. (Along similar lines, the GOP like to be known as "fiscal conservatives" but look at the way Republican presidents and governors have gone WILD with overspending! Mark Warner, a democrat I'll remind you, is a "fiscal conservative" and he has a strong record to prove his effectiveness. He, along with other democratic governors in Virgina, have helped to make Virginia one of the best run states in the nation!!!! ...we're talking democrats, NOT the GOP. The GOP destroyed Virginia!)
So...I must say NO to your question. Politics as usual would make you think yes...but not so!
(Republican voters are on welfare too. McCain wants to give the gas companies a huge welfare check - $4 billion...)

Not strictly, but more like that the repugnicans represent tax consumers whose continued tax-subsidized presence might be expected at some
time in the future to come in handy, while the demonrats tend to represent tax consumers whose tax consumption only really tends to contribute to the security of jobs in the penal institutions, courts and police--and second tier related industries like burglar alarms, defense attorneys and
similar things we all wish we didn't even have any need for.
When you need an entire new military base poured almost overnight
and dire things hang in the balance if you can't get it done, you'd
better be supporting that industry when it's experiencing idle times
so it will be around when needed.
I don't know anyone who needs hordes of obnoxious noisy poster-
children for contraception, but if you did need a bunch, all you'd have
to do is lower immigration standards--you wouldn't need to keep subsidizing the breeding of locally produced ones.
So it's not quite as simple as you queried, but almost.

Depends on who you ask. I was a republican, and paid taxes. Now I am a registered Democrat, and I still pay taxes. The republicans ran me off because of their ties to the religious right, and because of GW Bush. All the Dems I know pay taxes, but I hang out with people that have jobs.

I don't think that's true at all. My spouse and I are democrats and last year paid more than $15K in income tax. I have a brother in law who is a rabid republican who had to go on public assistance for medical care when he had an accident.

No, the GOP represents Big Oil and the rich corporate CEOs and the Democrats represent the rest of us.

Unfortunately not quite so.
In addition to representing hard working Americans GOP is also heavily infested with evangelical fundies - and that's the problem.

To the largest percentage yes.
