I went to Italy a few years back and simply fell in love with it. During the time that I was there, I also spent a few day in France (Nice and Lourdes) and Amsterdam, Holland, but of these three countries, I LOVED Italy. Of course I stayed in Rome and visited Milan, but it was the small towns outside of Rome that were the most beautiful. Many of these small towns are high on hill tops, just like they were hundreds of years ago, and look into valleys below. I was there during June and part of July, during the time when sunflowers are in full bloom. I was able to look down from Assis into the valleys and have a full view of the valley of Spoleto. WOW simplybreathtaking. Italian people are awesome, too: very friendly and hospitable. I was very partial to the weather, since I am from So Cal, which has mediterranean weather, too. The history of Italy is so tangible; there is so much substance. The Colosseum, El Duomo in Milan, the Roman pantheon, the Roman Forum... need I say more? The food is amazing too, not to mention the wines.
Let's see:
Beautiful towns + Awesome Weather + Lovely People + Amazing history and substance + Delicious Food and tastey wines= The best place in the world to live
The best place in the world to llive = Italy

Would have to say Switzerland, specifically Zurich or Geneva. Very clean, trains and people are on time and friendly, the cities are rich, the chocolate is available and there is a huge clock on every corner. The food is good, there is culture to meet all interests, great schools, and the people are educated. Zurich is for the German speakers, Geneva for the French.
