On a 2gb iPod Nano, you can have about 500 songs, since a 1gb fits about 250, but really it depends on the file size, and file type and the time sequence on the songs. The most used file type and the type the plays well for iPods are mp3 files.

If once you upload the CDs on your laptop, you burn them in at a decrease bit fee (i.e. 56kbps somewhat of 128kbps) then you relatively've gotten two times the area. It does not distort the audio high quality or something. I certainly have one thousand+ songs and it basically makes use of roughly 2.5GB

The 2GB Ipod holds 500 songs, depending how long the songs are. You should visit www.apple.com, where they give specific information about their products. Here's the nano website. http://www.apple.com/ipodnano/specs.html

And you can try googling up information on Ipods and such, it's a reliable souce.

    Hope I helped!

I'm here to learn as well...I bought an older generation of one...(slimmer and smaller) 2nd gen, I think

I think it's around 400, but not entirely sure...so I woud like to kno as well!

However, there is another GB size inside the iPod's system info...mine says I have 1.7 GB

Apple will give an estimate, but believe me, all estimates are pointless. It depends on song length and the bit rate they're encoded at. Higher bit rates give better audio quality but take up more space, lower ones give lower quality and take up less space. Plus, length. So pretty much all estimates are worthless.
