Name this hockey player
First person to correctly guess AND explain gets 10 points.
-I was a captain of two teams on four separate occasions (four total, not four for each team)
-I was a Selke award winner.
-My name is on the Cup at least once.
Next clue will come in 15 minutes if no one answers correctly.
No correct answers yet.
Next clue: I've averaged over a point a game.
Remember, you need to explain how it's the player.
^^^^Over a point a game in a career.
curtisports2: You're missing one thing.
HabsFan: What you're missing is what you have yet to explain why it's "Franchise".
HabsFan wins by a nose.
Actually curtis it was points per game that I brought up.

I say it's Ron Francis. he won the Selke in 1995, won two Cups in Pittsburgh and captained two different teams on four separate occasions:
The Hartford Whalers from 1985-1990
The Pittsburgh Penguins in 1995, succeeding Mario Lemieux
The Penguins again in 1997-98
The Carolina Hurricanes from 1999-2004
Missing something? The only thing I can think of, since I answered each point you asked for, is failing to mention that Hartford and Carolina are the same franchise, ie, the same team, but I didn't think it notable because any hockey fan ought to know that.
Source(s): Congrats, habsfan, on the ten points, even though I was still typing my detailed answer while you gave only the payer's name and then edited your answer afterward, and the asker threw something else in (why Francis got his nickname, apparently) that wasn't a part of the original question. I'm not in this for points, just accuracy, and I stand by my answer. - silvestreLv 44 years ago

My vote goes to Ron Francis (actually beat the other guy by a few seconds as far as the name goes - but he beat me as far as providing more info)
I call him the Franchise in that he remained loyal to the whale. After several winning several Cups with Pittsburgh he eventually became a free agent in 1998 by that time Hartford had moved to Carolina where they were struggling Ron could have taken more money elsewhere but wanted to thank the organisation and did so from 1999 - 2004. (hope this is enough - I have to get ready for a game, hitting the ice in about an hour)
I don't see what those of us nominating "Franchise" are missing. He won the Cup with the 90-91 and 91-92 Penguins, a Selke in 1995, was C in Hartford, Pittsburgh (twice) and Carolina, had 1798 points in 1731 games.
It's up to Trombass as it's his question Curtis, but I too see Hartford and Carolina as two seperate franchises, since he wasn't part of the team as it moved, unlike guys like Joe Sakic (Quebec -> Colorado) and Mike Modano (Minnesota -> Dallas)
Thanks for being a good sport Curtis, you brought up some excellent points as well.
I'm not in this for the points either. Go ahead + give top answer to Curtis eh Trombass
