Parker Brothers published Black Box in 1977. ( http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/165 )The game is long out of print but should be pretty easy to find at an online auction or used game dealer. The rules are probably available at www.hasbro.com. The game doesn't use any special equipment so it is possible to make you own game using cardboard pieces!

Haven't seen it in a long time (tho I have one kicking around somewhere.) Like Mastermind and other such logical thinking games, it wasn't hugely popular compared to less-mentally-inclined ones.
