What could this be ?
I've noticed lately that when I sit for long periods of time, I can hardly stand up afterwards I'm so stiff. My boyfriend and I drove to Atlanta for the weekend and after the 3hrs of sitting, I had to slowly get out of the car and take a few stiff steps before I felt normal again.
I'm a 45 yr old non smoker and this is scary !! Could it be arthritis ? Help me out....

You and me both! I'm 48, going through peri-menopause and I'm stiff just after sitting for a few minutes! Achy joints are a symptom, it has something to do with the lowering of progesterone or estrogen I believe. I've had serious injuries to my ankles and knees but my hip joints are sore when I first stand and take those very gingerly one or two steps. Weight is also an issue for being stiff. I'm 130lbs but I'm just as sore as my neighbour who is 260lbs! I'm not old but I'm sure feeling it! All the best!

I am sorry you are feeling this way. I am only 25 but I already have some painful joint problems. Sometimes we forget that we can be sore- or even have some over all body soreness from an activity we did several days aggo. Muscle pain usually takes far longer to go away then other pain- so first see if it imporves. Second consider seeing a chyropractor. I have had a lot of great results- and sometimes a lot of pain can because something seemingly unrelated was out of alighnment. In the mean time hot showers from the top of your head all the way down to your tailbone should help relieve stiffness. If you think any of this is arthritic then make sure you stay away from tea, peppers, tomatoes, potaotes, eggplant, carrots, beets, (any nightshade plant) and fruit jucies. Those all trigger an inflamitory responce in joints. I hope that I have helped- and feel better soon!

I think it's normal to be stiff after that much stillness. You know a child couldn't have been still in a car for 3 hours. If you fidgeted like a child you probably would have simply stretched when you got up and been fine. Try a little more activity and see if your symptoms go away.

Seeing that you're getting older, I don't think you should worry.
My Mom is really stiff when she gets up after sitting down for a long time, and she's 44.
I wouldn't worry(:

I get the same thing and it's osteoarthritis. The only thing you can do is see a doctor and up your daily intake of calcium. There are also exercises you can do to ease this a bit.
