What exactly was the first semi-automatic pistol made, not the revolver. Meaning, what was the first pistol that operated by clip or magazine (i dunno which one they used first) rather than cylinder with multiple chambers.

Possibly the Borchardt Luger. Either that or a Browning design. But I bet its the Borchardt-Luger.
Yes, I checked and was right. The C93 Borchardt. Designed in 1893.

The first automatic pistol was created by Joseph Laumann in 1892. The Borchardt pistol of 1893 was the first automatic with a separate magazine in the grip
