Windows cannot load drivers for ethernet adapter

I have an ASUS AiLifestyle P5K motherboard, an Attansic L1 Gigabit Ethernet 10/100/1000Base-T Adapter came with this.

I have installed Windows Vista Home Edition (64bit).

I cannot however access the internet because it claims that my adapter hasn't been installed. This message comes up in device manager:

"This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device (Code 31)"

I have installed and reinstalled the latest driver to no effect. How can I make this work?

Thanks in advance for any help

You may have an "Orphaned" Device, Vista doesn't have support for some older devices, check the manufacturers website, and see if there is a Vista driver.

I would re-install the operating system if you have the CD. Tell BIOS to boot from CD>install the disk and re-install all the drivers again. If you tell us the make/O/S and model of your computer some one will be able to find all the drivers that you need.
