can anyone identify this plant please?

this has sprung up in the garden - growing fast, big leaves. Don't know if it's a weed or a plant. I like it, whatever it is! I can't find out how to add a photo - any hints gratefully received!

Thanks

Update:

Sorry - been trying to work out how to do this - thanks to whoever suggested photobucket. Hope i've got it right. A novice on computers. Hopefully below are the photo's of the mystery plant. Thanks

Update 2:

Thanks for the answers. i'll have to think about what to do with it if it's going to grow into a big tree - it's only about 10 feet from the house and as we're in the middle of London, in a very built up area, I doubt it's the right place for a large tree. Wonder if it can be replanted on the common or somewhere. Thanks again

This is a field maple, Acer campestre.

It will grow very quickly and at maturity can reach up to 25 metres tall.

The best thing is to remove it.

It is an Acer sapling. Quite a strong grower by the looks of things which means a big tree!

    Possibly Acer rubrum (Red Maple)

    EDIT.....Don't make any decisions yet!!!

I do not believe it is a field maple as they don't have red leaf stems. It could also be a Viburnum opulus.

http://www.toof.org.uk/identify/guelderrose/guelde... Why not pot it up come autumn and see what you end up with If you get red berries you know its a Viburnum, if not then approach the council about planting it somewhere.

the leaves certainly look one of the maple trees which means yes it is going to be to big for the small garden.

i think you would need to get permission to plant in the common, you will need to check that.

i think you will find a seed has blown on to your garden from a neighbouring tree or it has been deposited by a bird after digesting the seeds!

it is very unlikely to be one of the japenese miniature trees as it has grown so much this year.

    come off it!

what do you think we are - mind readers?

Edit - well done on the uploads.

Its of the acer family. My guess is sycamore or maple.

I wouldn't have thought it was field maple as has been suggested, the leaves are too big.

OUT IT! It'll take over, quickly.

dig one up. if it has a bulb or a big starchy root (called a corm) it might be iris, calla, canna, elephant ear, some kind of lily, or a fruit like a melon. is it a vine? tall or short? does it flower? is it shiny or dull? it might not be a weed at all. could it be considered an ornamental plant?
