Are Mini Schnauzers yappy and snappy like chihuahua's or pomeranians?
I am now thinking of getting my little Cairn girl Roxy a friend.

depends on training and socialization.. I have two that like to bark, but aren't too bad.. and one that barks very little if at all..
Edit:
Okay, so, everyone who has seen that they can be trained to be good dogs gets thumbed down, and the one who generalizes them as the same as TOY breeds (even though they are in the TERRIER group NOT toy), and says they are always yappy gets a thumbs UP?..
I've had schnauzers all my life, and only ONE has been a serious barker.. and even he only does it outside.. nor have they been biters. Schnauzers are NOTHING like Chi's or Pom's.. not even the same group.. With proper training, socialization (and stimulation.. bored dogs bark), they are just fine.. So, whoever is doing the thumbs downs.. get a life.

I bought my first Mini Schnauzer when my son was 18 months old. They were best buddies until she died 10 years later. I now have 2 Minis, one I got as a puppy and the other I adopted at 10 years old. I love them both to pieces. Minis are easy to train, very lovable, loyal and want to be in the middle of family life, I'm not sure where anyone came up with the idea they were outdoorsy dogs, they need to be inside. They don't shed so they have to be groomed every couple of months. Along with being protective of children they are very playful. I am all for shelter dogs too, but I wanted to know what kind of temperament to expect when my son was little. Just make sure that if you decide on a breed, stay away from the pet stores, find a reputable breeder.

I have had 2 mini schnauzers, with different personalities. The first one was calm and laid back, and the one I have now is very active, curious, and independent. The do bark, and can be a bit mouthy. You will need to enroll in a good puppy class, or hire a trainer to help you through these phases. They are very loyal to their owners. They need to be socalized around different people and situations. They are not fond of being left home alone, and can be quite bossy to other dogs. Chances are the schnauzer will be the dominate dog. They are extremely intelligent, and will become bored if left to their own devices for long periods of time. I adore my schnauzers and they are great with kids...just be prepared for a high maintenance little friend. They need a lot of your time and patience. Great travelers.

Small dogs are yappy and snappy for 2 reasons
1. Overbreeding.. you have alot of irresponsible breders pumping out dogs with poor temperments to make a profit.
2. Poor training. Many owners let their little dogs get yippy and snappy.. its starts out with small growls and barks and people act like its "cute".. over time it escilates to a little monstrous ankle biter. Had it been a larger breed puppy, the owners would have done something to correct agressive behavoir right away.

My parents have had a min schnauzer for about 7 years now. She does bark alot but hasn't ever really snapped at any one. She is a pretty good dog and isn't too hyper.

Well, my friend has one and he's really yappy and snappy but my other friend has one that is calm. I guess it depends on the dog.

They can be. What I think is the tinier they are the more snappy because they need defence.

Cairns are barkers too.

They can be, especially if they come from a bad breeder and aren't properly socialized.
