How would you feel if your favorite team's rival went out of business?

Just asking for giggles here. Here's an example: Say you're a Yankees fan (like me) and the Red Sox find themselves in major financial problems that will force the team to go out of business at the end of the season. What would be your reaction be? Would you laugh or be happy that your longtime rival is no longer existence? Or would you be upset knowing that a major opponent won't be around to test your team anymore? As for me, I wouldn't want to see it. Rivalry is what helps make sports what it is.

So, what's your thoughts?

It would be awful to see the Yankees out of business. The rivalry between our two teams is like no other in sports and I would miss it! The stress I feel every time we play each other would be gone but, where is the fun in that?

As I much as I would get a kick out of seeing the reactions from the Boston fans if their beloved Red Sox went out of business, I wouldn't like it if the team completely went down forever. The rivalry is too much fun and such a big part of being a Yankee fan. Trying to get all pumped up for a Yankees vs. Rays game would not be the same as a Yankees vs. Red Sox game.

Rivalries do make sports great. So I would be disappointed. On another note, I have to disagree with you Elizabeth but I'm a Rays fan (since 2001 when Hal McRae took over) but an Rays/Yankees or Rays/Red Sox rivalry would be great if the Rays played spoiler and prevented one of them from postseason play. I think the baseball community is tired of a Yankees/Red Sox postseason games. Its time to mix things up.

I'd be upset. The rivalries are what makes the history of the teams so interesting - the Yankees aren't the Yankees without the Red Sox...and vice versa.

I think that it would be horrible; you need those rivalries to keep you going, as a Phillies fan if the Mets were not there to have a rivalry with I would be saddened more than anything. It would cheapen the season to have to have a rivalry with the Nationals...although to have a rivalry the other team has to put up a fight so there goes the Nationals from this talk!

I'm a die-hard Yankee fan, and I hate the Sox, but if I found out the Red Sox franchise is going "out of business", I'd be real disappointed. I love the rivalry.

well im a cubs fan but i wouldnt mind if the sox went away.but as for other rivalrys i love to watch Yanks/Sox and Angels/As but i want the cards to keep challenging the cubs

  • ahh that's tempting

just to want to say I would love to get rid of them

as a White Sox fan the Twins have been BIG pains as they never let you win in peace

YET like you said it makes the game and in honesty you cant just hope to kill off teams because sooner or later you would have a new rival.
