To go to the Olympics, how much do you have to train?

I know this is a stupid question, and I know you obviously have to train alot, but how much? I kinda dream of going to the olympics, but I get really intimidated... if someone could explain in depth of the sacrifices they make, and how much they train, I would deeply appreciate it. Thanks!

It depends on the sport really. Something like swimming or gymnastics, you pretty much are spending most of your waking hours training. You can be extremely talented like Natalie Coughlin and be able to do other things and still be in the Olympics, but that is rare.

I know in my sport, archery, there are some people that have made it to the Olympics that didn't train all that much. These archers obviously will not win any medals at the Olympics when they go up against archers that spend 10-12 hours a day shooting and more hours working on weights. Jennifer Nichols, one of the two US women in the archery team has said that she shoots roughly 150-250 arrows a day. That is not much at all, considering that the Koreans shoot 500-1000 arrows a day.

Well, most of the olympians have been training since they were about 4 or 5.

You have to eat drink and sleep the sport you want to compete in because if you want to compete against the best then you have to be the best
