No, you do not just need a wire.

First you need a display adapter in your PC that can output component video (which is totally different to the video sent to a monitor), you need to take account of the fact that TV pixels are not square while monitor ones are, or you need a TV that has a VGA input (mine does).

If you have the latter, you need a VGA cable and a sound cable (VGA does not send sound to the TV).

If you have a card with TV out on your laptop you will probably need an S-Video cable, though if your TV does not have S-Video in you will need a cable that converts S-Video to SCART or to three composite inputs (they are colour coded).
