Please explain all about a boxers heat cycle?

I hear so many conflicting things. I will buy a few books before I get my boxer ***** puppy to prepare, but can anybody answer my following questions? Boxers start heat at around 8 months, so how long does "heat" last for? will sher be in pain like a human female? somebody told me it will be a bloody mess for a week, is this true? Somebody else told me never to get a ***** as they rip up furniture to prepare for pups in phantom pregnancies. any help will be appreciated

Update:

    >>>Boxers start heat at around 8 months, so how long does "heat" last for?<<<

    Approximately three weeks.

    >>> will sher be in pain like a human female?<<<

Nobody knows, but since some of them do get out of sorts I'd say some do have some pain or discomfort.

    >>> somebody told me it will be a bloody mess for a week, is this true?<<<

Depends on the b*tch. My girls are very clean, but some do make a real mess.

    >>>Somebody else told me never to get a ***** as they rip up furniture to prepare for pups in phantom pregnancies.<<<

Again, depends on the b*tch. I used to have one that would pee on my bed whenever she was in season.

All these issues can be avoided by spaying her.

The larger the dog, the later the heat cycle begins - in general.

8 months is not a hard and fast rule. She may start at 4 months, or she may not start until 12-18 months.

Heat cycles generally last 21 days. But, again, this is a generalization.

A 8itch in heat can certainly get weird during her cycle. And yes, there is typically a good amount of blood involved, especially with larger dogs.

Spaying the 8itch at 6 months is the best way to handle it. If she's not going to be a show champion or an impressive specimen of the breed (as judged by a breed professional, not you or your friends), then she needs to be fixed and all these questions will be moot.

I am hoping the only answer to your question would be to make sure she is spayed as soon as possible. Why would anyone want to breed their dogs in this day and age...go to petfinder.com and see all of the boxers/mix dogs and you will have your answer as to why everyone thinks it might be cute to have puppies. It is not fun/cute. There are not enough homes for all the dogs in shelters. So you do not have to mess with it or the headache of your boxer bleeding, keeping her in the house phantom pregnancies etc..being spayed takes out all of your stress....and by the way heat cycle is a heat cycle..no matter what the breed.

we know the blocked out *****

. Heats last typically 21 days. Get her fixed before her first heat cycle and you won't have to worry about her heat and all that goes along with it.
