The song sung during the Olympic ceremony was lip synced ? ?

I just read this on CNN .Here is a excerpt of the article .

A little girl and her song captivated millions of viewers during the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics. But what they saw was not what they heard.

Lin Miaoke was the darling of the Olympic opening ceremony, but it turns out she was lip-syncing.

Games organizers confirm that Lin Miaoke, who performed "Ode to the Motherland" as China's flag was paraded Friday into Beijing's National Stadium, was not singing at all.

Lin was lip-syncing to the sound of another girl, 7-year-old Yang Peiyi, who was heard but not seen, apparently because she was deemed not cute enough.

"The reason was for the national interest," said Chen Qigang, the ceremony's musical director, in a state radio interview. "The child on camera should be flawless in image, internal feeling and expression. ... Lin Miaoke is excellent in those aspects."

The decision was made at the highest levels, Chen said.

"We had to do it," he said. "We'd been through several inspections. They're all very strict. When we rehearsed at the spot, there were several spectators from various divisions, especially leaders from the Politburo, who gave the opinion it must change."

Yep, I heard of this couple of days ago... I think it is very stupid to blow this out of proportion... I mean both girls got a slap in the face, one because she was too 'ugly', and the other because she didn't sing 'good enough'... so both did what they could do to run the show... b/c as they say in show biz.. the show must go on...

I personally feel for the 'ugly' one, because many people can't sing, but to announce that you are not 'attractive' enough to represent your country to the world is just horrid.

Actually the 9 year old had gotten the part as singer too but at the last minute the Olympic officials decided her voice was not good enough and had the other girl as back up. The 9 year olds father was watching live and wondering why her voice wasn't the same and thought it was the arena only to find out her voice wasn't good enough people like to hear the other girl wasn't pretty enough but it's not the whole story

me and my mom were talking about this yesterday. Lin's gonna go the rest of her life thinking that 1. all she's valued for is her beauty and 2. She's a terrible singer. Yang's gonna go the rest of her life thinking 1. I could have been on national television if some wacko had thought i was adorable.

It's sad because the girl who was really singing they said was ugly and got the cute girl because she was cuter and better looking to be on TV. :(

Its sad that they care so much about what a little girl looks like.

She has an amazing voice, so who cares if she's a little chubby ?Nobody!
