What do they mean, "girl stuff"?!!!?

She probably had cramps.

A lot of girls get them when they are on their period.

An easy way to "cure" cramps is to sit with your knees close to your chest.

Just leave her a lone for a while when she says girl stuff. Trust me, you dont want to get involved.

She's most likely on her period and didn't want to swim for fear of getting blood in the water. A common fear. Easily solved by tampons, though. That's probably why she was pouting though, if she doesn't use tampons. You could offer her some Advil if you think she has cramps though, sometime. ;)
