Well sex, drugs, and alcohol all violate our Puritan outlook on life.
That is why so many pleasures are illegal in our so called free country. We even hate pain medication for suffering people.
We are a nation of nosy busy bodies.

As a general rule, I agree with you . But there is one exception--and it applies to current American politics.
That exception is if one side (party) makes "moral values" a qualification for a candidate--a "litmus test." If they do--as the Republicans have done for years, then voters are entitled to judge them accordingly.
What I mean is this: If a politician (party, etc.) takes a position that he/she is "morally superior" to the opposition (as the GOP has done) and wants the voters to use that as a basis for choosing, then they are bound by that. If the voters then apply that standard to THEM--well, it's exactly what they asked for.
So. Should infidelity be an issue? Not really. But if the GOP wants to use "moral values" as their incentive for voters to choose their candidate--then they have to have the moral wherewithal to "cover the check"--or suffer the consequences.
And McCain does not have the record to back up the claims of moral superiority that the GOP wants to be judged by. So if it's an issue--they are only getting exactly what they asked for.

If the person weren't running for public office I would agree. However when you have people who use their family and their marriage as a prop for a campaign use you have to question why? Are they trying to hide something? Obviously, Edwards wasn't what he portrayed. One would think that he could have figured out that you can't have your cake and eat it too. What a complete idiot he was. And, yes, anyone who claims a moral high ground in a campaign (republican or democrat) and gets caught doing something untoward he should expect what he gets.

Yes, I can see were someone's word and bond have no place in the public world. Understanding that someone would be willing to hurt someone in such a deep and personal way has no bearing on their fitness for public office.
Honesty, Its just sex right?

It's a matter of integrity. If they can't keep a promise to be faithful to their spouse why can they keep a promise to their constituents?
