Green Card Experts Lottery = scam ?

Hey,

I've applied to a green card lottery by green card experts.org but I just read that It might be a scam... I was wondering if anyone of you knew the truth ? If it is a scam, what is the risk, now ? Are they gonna steal money from me ?! What's gonna happen ? What can I do ?!

It may or may not be a scam -- that's hard to say.

The only to make sure you don't get scammed is to apply directly with the US government at http://www.dvlottery.state.gov/

Third-parties often offer services related to the green card lottery and charge you money, in exchange for which they file your application on your behalf (which is of no cost to them other than the time they spend on it). Sometimes they'll tell you that however much you paid them guarantees they will apply for you for a certain number of years. Often there is no way of keeping track of whether they did or did not apply for you... or if it's a true scam they're happy so long as they got your money and may not do anything at all. Sometimes they'll make completely false claims, e.g. applying with them will improve your chances of winning. Some of those companies use the money they make from unsuccessful applicants to pay for successful applicants' plane ticket to the US, etc., etc.

There's hardly a way to verify whether one such web site is a scam or not, and if they are, how far the scam extends.

If you're worried, you can cancel the credit card you used to pay them, or at least block the charge, but that's about it.

Chances are you didn't get scammed at all, but you simply paid for something you could have done for free by yourself and nothing will happen to you, but like I said... it's hard to say for sure!

Yes, it's a scam. There are too many grammatical errors for it to be a legitimate offer.

Any website is scam except Department of State website and application is FREE! If you already paid them, the money is gone. Sorry. Next year try from this site.

If they ask you for money, then yes I think it might be a scam, they can't steal money from you unless you have given them your bank details, if they do want money then just don't send them any.
