What is your rating on Windows VISTA??

Is Windows Vista a good operating system or is there a LOT of errors in it? If you were to buy a new computer today, would you buy it with Windows 2007 or Vista?

You've probably heard one of those horror stories about glitches in the system and it being so slow. I have Vista on my laptop and it runs fine. I haven't spotted any problems so far and it loads quick enough. The only reason Vista seems to have a few glitches is because the demand was so high for it that Microsoft had to release it before the system could be checked and fine-tuned.

Some people get Vista, knowing there is going to be problems with it, and when they get it home they inspect every bit of programming to find the glitches until the system runs with 100% efficientcy. A friend of mine did that and he says it works really fast now.

The Vista team found the existing code untenable and rewrote 60% of the code base FROM SCRATCH in 2004. This led to its disastrous compatability and bugginess issues.

I use a Mac. No problems. Don't even need antivirus!

P.S. Forgot to mention this (see link):

"VISTA SECURITY GUTTED BY NEW WEB EXPLOIT

Many of the security measures Microsoft has implemented and touted for Windows Vista have been compromised through a single exploit, a presentation made at this week's Black Hat hacking conference claims. IBM Information Security Systems' Mark Dowd and VMware's Alexander Sotirov have found a method that uses scripting systems such as Java and elements of the .NET framework in Windows-based web browsers to arbitrarily run code on Vista systems. Internet Explorer is particularly vulnerable due to its use of ActiveX.

The malicious code not only negates the effectiveness of Vista's Address Space Layout Randomization and Data Execution Prevention technologies, which respectively randomize the location of some code in memory and prevent executing code from outside a certain memory space, but specifically abuses their behavior to ensure an attack gets through.

Microsoft is also unlikely to have any way of patching against the approach, since it can be reused whenever another vulnerability is found in a web browser. Such programs are also often the one Internet-based program that is often unblocked by security software and would thus thwart simple defense mechanisms such as blocking network ports or program permissions."

I'd still stick with XP--or ditch Windows entirely and switch to Linux, which you even can get preloaded on some machines now.

I got a call from my sister last night with a Vista network problem that I couldn't help with. Some recent update from Microsoft caused a bunch of applications not to be able to talk to the network. We tried uninstalling and reinstalling the network drivers, and it didn't help. She's going to have to try reinstalling the applications to see if that does any good.

IBM still has no plans to use Vista on its desktop machines internally. I won't be surprised if they ditch Windows entirely and switch to Linux for business use. They've been using Linux increasingly for server applications, and they have a huge project going on right now to move thousands of Linux servers for customers onto big z/VM systems.

I beta tested Vista and still refuse to put it on anything.

I am currently using my Mac running OS X, and if I feel the need to play a PC game I use boot camp to have Windows XP professional load. For all other uses the Macintosh platform is far superior to anything coming out of Redmond these days.

the #a million subject with Vista suitable now could be (besides bugs & device defects) is application & driving force compatibility themes...it appears that evidently positioned, Vista does not artwork with ninety% of the appliance on the industry in the present day. carry on with XP for some extra years till that's extra useful and patched up like XP is now.

Vista was horrible for me. Don't even bother. So many bugs and problems, it isn't even worth it.

Anyway, if I were to buy a new PC, I'd buy it with Windows XP. There is no such thing as Windows 2007.

Vista is alright, but if I had the option I'd definitely pick XP.

Vista Home Premium has been working GREAT on my laptop! It is excellent. It is the third party software and drivers which cause the problems.
