Why is it required that a Christian be profitable, if we our saved by grace?

Matthew 25:28 Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents.

Matthew 25:29 For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.

Matthew 25:30 And cast ye the (unprofitable servant) into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

NOTE: FOR THOSE THAT THINK THEY ARE SAVED?

I BELIEVE THAT THE SIN OF DOING NOTHING WILL BE THE NUMBER ONE REASON THAT MANY WILL FIND THEMSELVES IN HELL ONE DAY.

Update:

superb9006: Amen Brother!!!!

Update 2:

NOobama: Parables are profitabl and not to be ignored.

"Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men" (Matthew 5:13).

Update 3:

Elizabeth C: Sadly mistaken......

Update 4:

Annoyed: You need to look into your Bible. Its not me that said this; it was Jesus.......He also said things like;

"For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven" (Matthew 5:20).

"Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat (Matthew 7:13).

"Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven" (Matthew 7:21).

As for judging other, as Christians we should not fear being judged unless we prefer darkness over light. We should seek judgment prefering the Light of God over any darkness that might dwell within us.............(Isaiah 1:17).

Update 5:

Eze 33:7 So thou, O son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth, and warn them from me.

1Th 5:14 Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.

Update 6:

Freedom: God Bless You! No doubt He already has..................

Update 7:

Annoyed: It looks like you could use all the help that you can get. I know that i need my brethrens help.

The Bible describes love as an action. If there is no evidence of love (profitable actions) for Christ and others in our life, then it is possible that our salvation is not genuine.

According to 2 Corinthians 5:17, “if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!”

When we are in Christ and He in us, we are regenerated, renewed, and born again, and this new creation is spiritually minded, whereas the old nature is carnally minded. The new nature is in fellowship with God, obedient to His will and "devoted to His service".

A person need to use the gifts that god gives them. Will a person hide their light? We should be Christ-like.If a person is hiding everything that god has done, what good is it?There should not be closet Christians. No pretending we should serve god one way or another. Has God did something for you-testify.Can you sing well -sing praises. Can you write good stories become a Christian writer. If you're not a christian being obedient to god don't pretend.Remember obedience is better than sacrifice.

We ARE saved by grace. Teaching works for salvation is a false doctrine.

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

    Romans 10:9

I don't like to judge another person's salvation. I don't know what is in a man or woman's heart. Only God knows that. It isn't for me to decide if someone is saved and going to Heaven or not. For people who say "judge not" I see far too much of this pointing fingers at who they believe is saved and who isn't.

edit: I have read my Bible. I don't need another mortal man's interpretation of it. Thanks. :)

The parable has more to do with obedience to the Master than with being profitable.

Stewardship over what we have been given is more important than success.

This parable is simply teaching us that we own nothing but everything that exist is Gods. We are taught thru this parable that we are to be good stewards of the things that God has allowed us to be the stewards of in this life.

Profit is NOT a requirement... you are misinterpreting that passage. Matthew 25 is a Parable... nothing more.

There are two types of profit, one stored where it does not fade away, and the other of this world! The words are not for sale, they are given freely, and to be given freely! Then there are gifts of material things!

We are save by grace alone. Not by tithing/works. They are just icing on the cake for God. He'll love you no matter how hard you work.

  • 1 decade ago

Good point. Just don't leave out that anyone can come to God at any time before death. That's grace.

It's because they have to convert others.
