My vote is for Sir Elton. Many people are not aware just how fantastic he is as a composer and pianist - they see him as "just" that piano rocker guy who plays Crocodile Rock and Bennie and the Jets, etc. Elton has written some of the most beautiful songs, and if you've never heard him play anything "bluesy", then you're really missing out. I've always thought that had he lived in the 1700s he would have been in the same league as Mozart.

Bless you, Elton, for giving us all a lifetime of wonderful, beautiful music!

Chopin for serious music, but for plain old fun Jerry Lee Lewis or Little Richard. And here's a star for asking an original question. Usually people ask about guitar players or singers.

Definitely Ludwig van Beethoven. i admire anyone who writes their own music but he was beyond anything i can think of as far as being timeless and you can still see and understand how great it is even in the context of today's music.
