About the Colorado Bible ban....?

I'm a Christian and obviously the news of the bible being banned shocked me a little, especially since we are a country founded upon religious freedom and tolerance. I'm aware that there are many people who claim to be Christians and show intolerance towards people of other religions, homosexual backgrounds, etc. However, I'm not one of those Christians. I believe that you should treat others how you would want to be treated, and that you should show respect to everyone even if you don't necessarily agree with them. So I was just wondering what everyone else thought about the bible being banned in Colorado? Your views on the subject is appreciated. Thanks! :D

If you can ban religion, then our forefathers died for nothing.

Freedom is the cornerstone of democracy.

    And I'm atheist.

There isn't a Co Bible ban now only limits to where it can be displayed, places of worship & private clubs not open to the public.Hestia was the only one that read the entire bill & gave the link to the Govenors Bill ...

I'm for freedom of speech & no govt interference. But by allowing those passages to be displayed all over encourages hate crimes infringing on those whom are different..Whether sexual orientation, disability, marital staus,ie..Not everyone's tolerant & respectful of those differences like you & some others thus have to agree w' this bill...

We're all entitled to how we feel & this Co bill is not intended to stop this, how could it? LoL But the state cannot legistate hatred either..

    Just my thoughts

According to the article, it's not a bible ban. It's a ban on using discriminatory passages from the bible in public settings. A person is not allowed to have these passages on any public paraphernalia they distribute or post.

How is censoring hate a bad thing? They're not banning the bible, they are just doing what should be done by separating church and state.

I must admit, I've been very offended when these passages are thrown at me to tell me I'm a bad person because I'm gay. I must say I support this. I would not support an actual ban on the bible (even though I don't believe in it) because no book should ever be banned.

Do you have a link to an article? I'd like to see why and where it was banned. Did some event take place to cause the ban?

Edit: Surely that won't last long. If they ban the Bible for hate speech, then they have to ban every Holy book with those kinds of verses.

If you read the ENTIRE bill and it's amendments you will find that PLACES OF WORSHIP are exempt from the provisions of that bill.

Section 1 of the bill spells this out as follows:

"SECTION 1. Legislative declaration. The general assembly hereby finds, determines, and declares that nothing in this act is intended to impede or otherwise limit the protections contained in section 4 of article II of the state constitution concerning the free exercise and enjoyment of religious profession and worship."

    What?

I am against anything that curtails freedom of speech, even hateful. Though I do not know the details of the ban, I would never want to use the force of government to restrict individual freedom of thought.

But make no mistake. Parts of the Bible are in favor of slavery, genocide, violence, and discrimination against many groups, including women and the crippled.

But how can I critique your view fairly if such a text is banned?

Freedom is the name of the game.

That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. A similar scare tactic was tried by the Moral Majority in the state of Arkansas. In an election year, go figure!

As Hestia's priestess said, it's fine to have in a place of worship. In this way I don't think its unconstitutional because they're still allowed to speak in places of worship. The first amendment never promised a platform from which to speak, only the right to speak.

I do feel strongly for the freedom of speech. As Evelyn Beatrice Hall said about Voltaire, "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." I too feel similarly. I abhor the thought of people spewing hate speech about me, my friends, and others, but I feel they have a right to speak.

Political correctness at it's utmost stupidity!

Don't want to offend anyone, right? GAG, PUKE!

Well, when people say that I, as a Christian, can't express my faith, then THAT offends ME!

A few years ago I read where one public school tried to ban students wearing necklaces with crosses as it was 'offensive to some students and faculty.' What a pile of male bovine excrement. Direct violation of the Constitution of the United States, to whit: "...no law respecting an establishment of religion, or the free exercise thereof..."

I think Colorado stepped on their....

Someone wasn't thinking when they wrote that law.

    Just my opinion, of course.

They didn't specifically ban the Bible; but the law could reasonably be interpreted as including it. Strictly speaking, bookstores will have to pull about 90% of their titles off the shelf to avoid potential violation of the law.

I'm almost hoping someone does get charged over this so they can launch a Constitutional challenge. It's a violation of the First Amendment on its face. No wonder the Dems are meeting in Denver.

Do you have a link? I missed that bit of news so any comment would be nonsensical. When did this happen? And in one city or the whole state?
