What are some popular songs suitable for children?
I teach 2nd grade and am wanting to add some music to my classroom. I know there are songs like, "We are Family" and "Respect" that are great songs, but are there any more recent songs that would be appropriate for children?
Wow! Great suggestions....I don't think I'll be able to pick a fave! So many good suggestions!

Try downloading some Nick Jr. songs.
My daughter enjoys soundtracks from Backyardigans and Lazy Town. Most of the songs are catchy and education-oriented. Backyardigans is a show themed to different styles of music, each episode explores a new genre as the characters find another new adventure in their backyards. Lazy Town is all about fitness and manners. It teaches conventions like politeness, etiquette, and good sportsmanship. I have a peeve against corny kid songs, but these are rather likeable. I would recommend Disney, but most of their recent material is pretty unsubstantial, mainly commercial kid-pop (i.e. HSM, Camp Rock, Hannah Montana) and movie-song remakes. You might also try downloading music from a program called Hi-5 (U.S,). The show is geared to pre-schoolers, but the songs in themselves are age-expansive, I think, and could work well along certain activities.
Also Google Greg's Science Songs.
Just a suggestion. Good luck!

Let's See look for Disneychannel type songs, so what I'd do is go on radio disney or something because thats what most ids listen to these days, Hannah Montannah, Jonas Bros, Cheetah Girls, High School Musical, Camp Rock, Demi Lavato, so many things to choose from, I hope you have good luck with teaching!

Hmm... that's pretty difficult. Maybe "Life is a Highway" - the Rascall Flatts version is pretty recent and definitely a decent song. Natasha Bedingfield's "Freckles" is also a really great summer song that's all about appreciating differences ('a face without freckles is like the sky without the stars, why waste a second not loving who you are, those little imperfections make you beautiful, lovable, valuable, they show your personality inside your heart, reflecting who you are...')

Hannah Montana and Jonas Brothers are appropriate for kids, even though they are even more lame and idiotic than Aaron Carter was 4 or 5 years ago!

"Not For Kids Only" with Jerry Garcia and David Grisman. It is fantastic, old school songs like Teddy Bear's Picnic and Freight Train. Check on eBay!

i'd propose the story of the Noah's ark.....despite in case you assert this at a public college, you dont would desire to truly point out God in it. Props would additionally be rather undemanding to make for this!
