New Evanescence or Old Evanescence?

By old Ev, I mean pre-Fallen, as in Origin, Evanescence & Sound Asleep EPs, and demo songs.

By new, I mean Fallen, Anywhere But Home, and The Open Door.

Which one do you like better, and why?

As a sidenote, I know Evanescence isn't especially well-loved here, but I don't need answers saying "it all sucks" - if you don't like any of it, well that's just great and all, but I don't need to know, thanks.

Personally, I think pre-Fallen Evanescence was much better because it was much more original, different and it seemed as though they weren't afraid about holding back. The problem I find most with Ev is that they stop exactly before they reach their full potential, before they get REALLY good. Pre-Fallen, this didn't seem as much of a problem.

Thoughts and opinions?

Update:

Thanks for doing exactly what I said NOT to do, Metal Up Your ***.

No more comments like that, please and thank you. You don't like Evanescence? No one CARES, I assure you, you're not that important.

Update 2:

The answer that explains itself at least somewhat in-depth (the reasoning behind liking either one) will get Best Answer.

If you don't like a band, why the hell would you bother clicking on the question and answering? Oh, I know why. To be a total jerk. Some people are just like that.

Okay I'm not sure if I'm "qualified" to answer this, but I've probably heard more of Evanescence than some so-called fans, who go "ZOMG i L<3VE bring me to lyfe!!!", thanks to you. ;) So I'll try.

Honestly, I just cannot get into their newer stuff. It all sounds the same to me, and musically boring (for instance, I think "Bring Me to Life" had a good premise but I kept waiting for it to be taken to the next level, and it never did. It was disappointing.)

However you've posted several links to their older stuff for me, and I must say I'm impressed. Very different, quite original and unique, and much much much better than their new stuff IMO.

I have no idea what the backstory is - maybe they (*cough* she? *cough*) just got a big head and decided to go the mainstream route, to appeal to the masses. Who knows? I wish they had stuck to the original sound though. And tbh, if they had, they might not have become so popular but I surely would have been a fan.

I know that sounds silly - "You'd have ME as your fan!" but if you think about it, I bet Evanescence would have more "true" fans if they had stuck to their original sound. Nowadays you've got thousands of people going "I love Evanescence, they're amazing!" yet all they've heard are the singles and perhaps some of the songs from Fallen or The Open Door. I think if they hadn't gone all mainstream, they would have more fans who liked them for all of their music, not just the singles. Does that make sense?

Kind of like Emilie Autumn - she's got that amazing unique sound! I finally watched an interview with her, I was very impressed. I hope very much so that she sticks to being herself - not necessarily not making a change, because a change in music can always be good or bad, not necessarily bad - and doesn't fold under the mainstream popularity pressure. From what I watched though, she doesn't seem the type to do that. ;)

Okay that's about all I've got right now. Thanks for introducing me to their earlier stuff, I've definitely done a 360 with my views on Evanescence.

Older songs! I love them! Some of them almost have a slightly industrial flavour. Lol.

I like the new songs too, but most of the older ones are better.

It's annoying when you go on a "What's your favourite Evanescence song?" or something like that, and no one has even heard anything before Fallen... Or when people say "Evanescence sucks!" without having heard anything except Bring Me To Life and My Immortal... Although I like those songs, I can see why people don't, but they never seem to realise not all of Evanescence's songs sound like that. :)

My favourite album is probably Origin, my second favourite is The Open Door, then Fallen, Anywhere But Home, and finally their self titled album Evanescence.

I have to say, I like their pre-Fallen stuff much more than most of their new stuff.
